Default Consensus on Pistons and rebuilding the short block

It is time to rebuild the short block. #4 went.

I need to obtain some pistons and know that JE Pistons offers theirs for the S2000 with various compression ratios. I'm not looking for lower compression. I'm still NA and intend to stay that way.

But what about the sleeves? The constant debate over the sleeves and what to do? I have not see if the walls are scored at all, but if they are, I must opt for different pistons and sleeves.

Your thoughts?

Also, do you always need to replace the races (main bearings) upon a rebuild? Or mark and reuse?

If the cylinder bores are not scored, you should just rehone the bores. FRM cylinders hold up well if you're staying N/A. If I had to rebore my block, I'd like to kick it up a notch and run 88mm pistons (I have F22s). I have not seen off the shelf 88mm's, only custom CP ones. I'm sure JE could throw a .5 over set your way. As far as sleeves, Dartons and Bensons sleeves have been on spec sheets for boosted cars left and right. I think they're a bit overkill for N/A, but might be good insurance if you're already on your 4th motor. How did the first 3 motors go?

Sorry, slight correction, piston #4 went. I am still on the original 70K mile motor. However, several thousand miles were done on the track and the rest, spirited or daily driven.

I have quite a few track miles on mine too. If the #4 bore isn't damaged, a rehone would be fine, unless you want to kick it up a few notches. If my motor went out, I'd take it as a chance to build it up.

The head is fine. Two exhaust valves on #4 are off their seats. But they should be fine. I will have it rebuilt and the vavles replaced on #4 only.

I'd go with the whole set. Supertech makes nice economical ones.
