S or M ?
Tried searching for a similar topic but couldnt find it sooo..
Ok ok I know this is the S section so there will be some bias here. BUT im currently in a situation of either purchasing a ap2 or saving a little more and getting a 02-03 M3. Both would put me in the same situation financial wise (If I were to get an M I would have more to put down) .If you guys were (or are) in the same situation, what would you do? I know its two different cars. Ones a GT ones a true roadster yada yada. Both has its goods and bads; and either would be great
But heres my dilema. I honestly would rather have the M ... but
-e46 is outgoing model
-reliability issues (or is it just a overblown myth?)
-maintenance cost (is it really that much more than the S?)
However:
- more power
- better looks (IMO)
- backseat (even though I dont need it ... good in case I guess)
- its AN MMM
- really always wanted one ...
I honestly would rather have an M, but is it worth it? SO iono .. what you guys think?
TIA

its a shame u don't need a backseat. im pretty sure most guys do, yet oddly enough u will come to find out the possibilities of a frontseat.
test drive them. im predicting u'll choose the m3

lol at that backseat comment.
These internet opinions arent going to be my deciding factor. I know ill eventually have to test drive the M too before deciding. Unfortuantely like I said, ill have to save a bit more and I do not want to waste anyones time so test driving one before really considering buying is just rude.
Just pondering to whether or not fire the bullet now on good deals on the S or wait patiently ....

if you want a bigger more comfortable car.. get the m3..
if you want a sportier, not really comfortable car.. get the s2000
if you want to be noticed on the street... get the s2000

I dont know about you but around here there are more M3's then S2000s. The S is actually more rare it seems. The M3 is much more comfortable and its much more powerful. Both hold down resale value quite well. BMW have a notorious electrical problem as they get older. Of course M3 parts are going to cost you much more than a S2000. Service and maintenance will also be more steep.
The S2000 will always feel more tossable since its a few hundred pounds lighter.
If you always wanted and M3 why not get it? Why settle? I've wanted an S2000 for quite a long time and waited about 6 years before i was in a proper financial situation to acquire one.

Im referring to the e46. I cant afford it right now, but just curious as to whether or not its worth it to save up a bit more to get it. That damn electrical issue is bugging me.

S2000 is super nice, but an M3 is an M3. But it is true, maintenance is expensive. My dad has a 98 323is (only 51,000 miles on it...babies the thing) and any maintenance is super expensive, especially brakes. But, the m3s are so nice really. I'd say wait and buy it, you won't regret it. And if you've always wanted and M, you'll regret getting the S2000
E46 M3, without a doubt. I like the S, but can't be compared to the M. You really can't compare a $60k car to a $30k.
Also, I believe all M's come with 4yr/50k warranty (+ 100k on engine?). So, if you get one, make sure it's under warranty and you won't have to worry about the little problems. My friend's '02 M has had virtually no problems and he flogs that thing everytime he drives it.

yep all come w/ 4/50k and up til 04 they had the 100k engine too. But im looking at one thats near its reg 50k bumper/bumper maintenance warranty. I know its obvious ill have to get the extended ( 06/100k) warranty but that'll be like 5k more or something ....
Pls correct me if im wrong. Bumper to bumper warranty means if anything goes wrong (ie electrical, bumper falls off, xenons blow) its covered. Maintenance warranty applies to basically free check ups, oil changes, etc.

bumper to bumper means everything minus consumables (wear and tear items)
xenons blowing would cost you the bulbs. if it is the ballast or something else, they will fix it
bumper falling off? that won't happen without some accident or something else, won't be covered

Thats what I was sorta aiming at nishat
So does that mean bumper/bumper cover oil changes? Or just if something goes wrong . If so would I need both? Is it worth it to get even the maintenance warranty which I heard will run 1200.00 .
