broken exhaust opinion if $$ to repair or get new exhaust
i have my 99 si bought used the guy had on some aftermarket exhaust that i couldn't find a name to...i was thinking of changing it out
anyway i get into my car the other day and it was extremly loud..so i look underneath and i found this...
is it possible to guesstimate how much it would be..simple or hard..or woud i better off just getting an entire new exhaust setup? considering the rust it would have to be replaced..so im thinking its better off getting a new setup..?
thanks for all the help

i don't know a shitload about auto repair, but I'm gonna go ahead and say you're much better off replacing that ****... might as well, get something shweet, u know?
worth the money

the hard part is school and work..the car is extremely loud i dont want to drive it..even though it takes me 15 mins to get to school loud as hell...cops...etc
the WSII is about 400 shipped..i am highly guessing that it would cost about the same to get it repaired...stupid rust and chemical reactions!

that can be easily fixed, Ive had to reweld my entire B pipe on my car this yr now from rust, its really not that hard to do. As for the noise try to keep the rpms below 2,500 or so and it shouldent be all that loud, it will sound like one of those coffee can muffler deals for the time being.

dude there is no way it would cost that much to get repaired. i got a new exhaust 3 inch downpipe back with a dynomax muffler for 260 out the door
how much do you think it would cost in cluding labor? I dont have the tools (i think) nor the ability to do exhaust, and my friend is everything else except exhaust..so im looking at a local shop to do this
I don't know about the shops where you are. . but here where i live i know of a shop that will install a muffler for $20. If you just need it to be reatached, if possible it shouldn't be much at all. .. you can always give the shop a call and ask them how much it would be as well.
i would buy a new one or if the funds arent there i would just get it fixed or try to get it fixed but thats my 2 cents but get a new one u would like i fu have the funds
replace it.
the cat is fucked, you'll probably end up at least buying the mid pipe, probably the muffler and tail section too.
post a pic of the muffler, if it has bulging it is plugged.

Since its been rusted through, the pipe and the other part not sure what the other one is is rutsted..both of those will have to be replaced.
As i look more closly at the other parts most of it is rusted and will probably end up like that anyway...so i am better off getting a new setup..oh joy
I was going to replace the exhaust this spring anyway, but the sooner the better now
I guess I'll either be getting a WSII or kteller..i havent looked into kteller but now I will

There is not enough clean metal to weld, the cat is fully rusted, along with the pipe.

The pipe you can cut off, and reweld a piece of pipe on, the cats surface is rusted out.

Its more then likey just surface rust after the break, it can be sanded down and if there are pits filled with a wire welder pretty easily, even if you have to add a piece of pipe it shouldent be that hard.

First off the flange on the cat would have to be taken off, as you can see the bolts are still stuck on there. Then you have to drill the cat bolts out probably, if there that rusted in. Then you could regrind maybe, but that just don't look like surface rust. I mean look at how far the rust ate through the pipe, enough to break it.
Sure you can take it to some and I'm sure they could mig weld it, but it won't hold up.
Do it right the first time.

Not only that but if the welder doesnt do it right then you are gonna have spaces where exhaust gas escapes, which is gonna sound and smell like ****. Just replace the damn thing.

anyway heres another question:
if i were to get a WS2 rsr exmag etc, would the oem cat work with the exhaust piping, or woud i have to get a special cat to work with it

OEM cat will work, but you need to drill out those bolts that got rusted in, and remove the flange from the old exhaust. But if you did that, then yes it would work with the exhaust.

coool thanks alot castro
would the oem cat create any flow restrictions or would it be all the same?
I'm thinking of taking it to the shop though, kinda cold here in michigan but we will see
1 apexi world sport 400 shipped
1 oem cat converter 65 shipped
not to bad for a new exhaust setup
