I'm looking for some information on repairing them myself. They're about $600 from Honda, thought I might be able to save some customers some cash. The last few I've looked at had a couple leaking caps, but I dont know if that is the cause of the problem or the effect of it.

i have a pile of them that I have attempted to repair myself.
typically i find that a resistor in one corner burns out and damages the circuit board behind it. in some cases i am able to repair that resistor and thn more parts of the board burn out afterwards.
