I would have a compression test done on it before buying.

It has extended front wheel studs on the front of the car only, meaning it was drag raced. The modifications to the car are very light, which does not seem to indicate someone who would use slicks at the drag strip.

I would worry that the car may have been turboed in the past.

I'm not trying to make any accusations, I'm just giving my opinion of what I would do.

Understanding your vehicles serial (VIN) number

1st character- Identifies the country in which the vehicle was manufactured.
Japan(J) (All Integras are made in Japan)

2nd character- Identifies the manufacturer.
Honda(H) (Acura is not a manufacturer).

3rd character- Identifies vehicle type or manufacturing division.
Type-R is(4)

4th to 8th characters- Identifies vehicle features such as body style, engine type, model, series, etc.
DC231 (DC2 is a 2 door Integra, 31 is a Type-R)

9th character- Identifies VIN accuracy as check digit.

10th character- Identifies the model year.
For example:1997(V), 1998(W), 1999(X), 2000(Y), 2001(1), 2002(2), 2003(3)

11th character- Identifies the assembly plant for the vehicle.
Suzuka Japan (S)

12th to 17th characters- Identifies the sequence of the vehicle for production
as it rolled of the manufacturers assembly line. <- would this last four digit make the serialnumber for the car then?

how much is he asking for this car? Like Reid stated he is using extended front wheel studs, which may lead to question the life left on the motor. Its possible that other mods where taken away before they decided to sell.

Also the hood does not appear to be sitting right?

Something I've noticed over the years:

The cars that have nicely executed turbo kits and are tuned nicely are sold with their turbo kits, as prospective buyers will not doubt the quality of the parts, work or tuning.

The cars that had turbo kits that were simply bolted on and run for a long time, are always sold without the turbo kit.

For me personally, I'd rather buy something like the ITR migs just picked up from yellowblur (ITR with custom turbo kit and tuned) than a car that was previously turboed and now N/A. My $0.02.

Agree with Reid, be prepared to travel if you want a purely mint Type R.

I know I did, and several others have. Stay away from that one.

As someone already mentioned, the car was previously turboed. The owner lives near a couple of my friends. From what I hear he wasn't running much boost when it was actually turboed (almost a year ago I think). The thing like never leaves the garage. I think I've seen it on the road at most twice.

I would be weary of it only because it's been for sale for a REALLY long time. I sold my JDM-fronted ITR in the same area in about a week, I got top dollar too.

my gsr has extended studs in the front that i put on and i have never had slicks or anything on it. so you cant always assume just because of the studs the car was dogged.
