new car, fresh start
So i'm selling my 90 civic dx cuz it was stolen, but then i got it back with all the stereo equipment stripped out. With 290k on the original engine, I decided it wasnt worth puttin more money into it, so i bought a 96 accord ex with the 2.2l vtec. i'm goin around tryin to get diff peoples opinions on what to do with it. i just ordered a ractive cai and the aem bypass valve today (gotta start with the newbie stuff). my brakes are started to squeal and i know i need new pads on the front. after doin a LOT of readin on hondatech, i decided im gonna stick with oe pads (seeing as im not putting it on the track). since cash flow is rough right now, i gotta start slow, but i do have a couple questions. first, what advantages are there to replacing the plugs and wires? my buddy tells me to put on the ngk iridiums, but i dont know what that really does for me. also, other than the cai, what are some of the minor (meaning cheap) upgrades/mods you guys have done to your accords (keeping in mind that this is for the 96 ex)? btw, the civic is still for sale and would make a great project car - $500..

with every car I have purchased, I have tuned it up immediately. Most people won't spend any money on a car they are about to trade or sell, which means the basic maintenance suffers.
I would go ahead with the plugs, wires, dist. cap and rotary button (if it has them). I am a huge fan of OEM, but that's up to you. Of course stick with NGKs. I have had 2 Hondas and one Acura, and I have never noticed a significant difference in the platinums or iridiums to justify the cost. For everyday driving, save your money and get the regular plugs.
Congrats on the new Accord! You'll love it.

Maintenance is job #1,2,and 3. Then when it is running right, you can "think" about mods. You can "think" about it, just "don't do it". Keep it stock, and keep it OEM. Happy Hondaing
PS: Appearance mods are OK, as long as they are OEM quality. Not under the hood please.
