purchasing a GSR motor, please help with questions
Sorry, this has probably come up a few times here and there. I tried searching but it did not give me answers to my questions.
This week I am going to purchase a GSR from a fellow enthusiast in my area, the deal is nearly sealed but I have to go see the engine and tranny. I would like to ask, what is the ideal compression for each cylinder in the motor? What other details should I look into checking (the motor is out of the car so I cannot drive it or run it). I will ask for a small/short warranty. Where is the VIN number located on the motor/tranny (for carfax checks)? And same question goes to both tranny and motor codes? What are the motor/tranny codes for a GSR (B18C1?)? If you have any other advice regarding the purchase please post up. If you need more information of any sort let me know.
Thank you.

On my ls the vin is located on the front of the tranny, near the engine code stamp. I'm not 100% where the engine vin is located... i think it's on the back of the block? The head should have p72 i believe, stamped near the top of the exhaust manifold, on the right side. I'd guess the tranny also has p72...? Same as the ecu. I don't know.. that's all I got.

The VIN on the block is in front of the motor next to the AC mount.(Lower Right). And it should say DC2 in the VIN and the block code should be B18C1

Standing in front of the motor, look down and to your left around where the tranny meets the engine there should be a vin on the tranny. Tranny should say S80/Y80 for the code. Engine sohuld be B18C1. Look for obivous stuff like oil leaks and any damage.
