Default 94 Honda Del Sol

Im sure this topic is asked a lot and can be annoying but I need some help...
Im a marine stationed in north carolina and my hometown is in VA and i drive home just about every other weekend 2 see family.

I have a 94 Honda Del Sol with the D16Z6 and its got 180000 miles on the motor.. the car is in just about flawless condition no rust or anything

I am looking to get a new engine just becuase of that fact that the current motor is high miles. I am planning on about a 5000 dollar loan. I want something with good power and good reliabilty and mayb good for Forced Induction in about a year

My current idea is a B16A2 with mounts, header, full exhaust, intake, and redo the suspension bushings on the entire car. i got 4800 dollars for an estimate all installed..

If i went the H22 route would that require cutting of the engine bay and would i still be able to keep my AC and cruise control.. i want those for the long drive...

or... should i spend another grand and get the B18C1

Please Help with suggestions... This has been nagging at me for a while

I have had 2 Civics one with a d16Z, one with a B18C (GSR motor), and a Del Sol with a B16. And a Prelude (H22A4).

Here are my impressions. The B16 does not have enough torque. But I LOVE how high it revs, and I look forward to switching to Civic Type R pistons. The GSR motor had good revs and good torque - and was rowdy fast in a hatch. The H22 has great torque, but only revs to around 7k. I currently own cars with a B16 and a H22. But personally, the B18C1? (GSR) gets my vote. Don't get me wrong, all the other motors are fantastic as well - including the motor you have. But the DOHC engines take things to an entirely different level. As for boost, I had a turbo on the Prelude. The power was cool, but it felt like something that had been thrown together in someone's garage. This was a $4k name brand kit. My point being, there is nothing like Honda parts on Honda motors. Honda has spent millions (billions?) on R&D. Some dude that decides he is going to start making performance parts to go with his ASE certification will never be able to match that kind of quality - I don't care what kind of flashy name he calls his company.....

BTW, THANK YOU for serving our country. While I don't really endorse our current overseas endeavors, I know that is not something you are in control of. Many members of my family and friends have served during wars (UDT in Vietnam, front-lines in Normandy and in Iraq2.) My point being, I just wanted to say thanks. I hope you know that there are liberal college boys out here that appreciate everything you guys do for your country - despite the stereotypes. Rock on, brother. I live on the NC/VA line. If there are ever any questions I can answer for you about Hondas, shoot me a PM.

i would probably go with the gsr motor as well because a b16 wouldnt push that much for a heavy del sol... make it JDM hehe

Hey, seriously. B18b1. Even more specific a year in the mid 90's but no lower than 94. Take it from someone who's done it already, it's ALL plug in play really. Why, a couple of things you'll need different off the top of my head.... delsol dohc Lbracket & shift linkages.

PS. oh yea, and uh really if you want to boost LS would be the better candidate.

PSS. but i suppose if i had the chance/money for a GSR i would have gone that route too

Depending on the trim level of his Sol, it could be damn light!

I would go with the GSR if it were my money.

u want bang 4 ur $$... get a h2b setup

a h22 engine w b series tranny.. its pretty quick

the after market for FI on b16's is huge but... NA is best and more reliable:: w less components to maintain.

You can put 250-260 to the wheels on an h2b with boltons and simple ignition upgrade

id go b16 with the money you are planning on spending... replacing the suspension bushings?? just pick up some tein basic coilovers ... cheap enough/quality investment

BTW:: imortal:: my slightly gutted del sol s weighs a 1900lbs with me and gas
removal of a/c power steering and trunk guttage did the trick

160-170hp... torque w b16-b16a2.................. stock del sol 2550lbs
180 GSR $$$$
210-220 h22a $$$
210 k20a $$$$$$$$$$
200 b18c $$$$$
