Default Hang with me...Jeep trans question

Seeing as there is no trans forum, I went to where my car belongs. If needed move it. My question, my father owns a 2005 Jeep Rubicon stock 6 speed. He had trouble starting off in first and has since started off using second. Vehicle seems to go through just fine minimal strain. Just curious as to if its hurting anything. I've tried logic of that's why they made first gear, but to no avail. Seems somewhere that I've heard that puts extra load on the engine and/or trans. Any help is appreciated.

go to the dealershit. Have them look at/fix it under warranty. Nothing better than getting something fixed for free!!

Maybe the clutch is gone. If your starting in 2nd and 1st is gone, maybe you need a new transmission. Or maybe your lucky and all you need to do is just drain and change the transmission fluid. Starting in 2nd is horrible for a transmission. How many miles on the car? How many miles has this been going on? What kind of 'trouble' does it give? Be more descriptive.

In most cases I beleive it bogs the engine and puts extra unessessary stress upon it. I'm not sure exactly where the stress is but common sense should tell you 1st is a better gear to start in. If the engineers of Honda and Diamler Chrysler saw 2nd gear as a more practical idea to start with from a stop, why would they have put a 1st gear in their cars?

Also, +1 for the point of having any and all work done by a dealer as to not void your warranty.

You should teach him how to drive.A brand new Rubicon won't take off in first gear????That thing should be strongly geared. He mite just not like the initial jump.My buddy has a mustang and he never uses 1st gear.He is a wuss. The only thing it could hurt would be the friction plate from slippen to go.

Alright I appreciate all the help and comments, as far as fixing anything it goes to the dealer for everything but...Im not exactly sure where I said anything was broken. The vehicle has no problem in first, I drive it all the time and get nothing but a smooth takeoff. I have tried to teach him but there is some kind of male supremacy thing there so he doesn't listen. Just lookin to see if it put stress on any parts. Thanks to all who helped.

he is only hurting something if he is riding the clutch wich he probably is to get rolling in 2nd

id also agree with teaching him how to do it right.
