Default Clutch Pedal Feel

I'm curious as to what determines the 'feel' of the clutch pedal. For example:

99 Accord 4cyl 5-speed. - Pedal is firm all the way to the floor. When releasing pedal, there is about 2-3" of freeplay before it starts to catch, then another 2" before it's fully engaged.

Whereas:

'05 Accord V6 6-speed. - Pedal is firm until you reach 2" from the floor, where it sinks easly. Pedal is loose, and easy to depress 1-2" from the floor before it catches. Very little play between disengaged and engaged, catches within 1".

What causes this, and is there any way to alter it? My one guess is with the '99, the clutch is more worn and takes longer to fully engage. But that isin't everything. WHat about the last 2" where the '05 accord's clutch is easy to depress? That sure makes for easy driving in traffic. Any reasonable explanations welcome.

the pedal travel and pressure really depend on the pressure plate and clutch disk used (mostly the pressure plate).

my Action 2MD unsprung 6-puck clutch will go from fully disengaged to completely engaged in under 1 inch. it's a HOWL watching other people try to drive it, as they completely stall it out and/or do burnouts just trying to get off the line.

I guess my point is get a stiffer aftermarket clutch if you want firmer and shorter engagement.

Or they just have the adjustment set like that? I know on my accord i can adjust pedal travel when it catches or not.

Like you said, it has to do with how worn it is. I just replaced my factory clutch on my 95 last year. It has 140k on it. It wouldnt catch 'til the pedal was almost all the way out. Now it catches pretty soon compared to before.

My clutch doesnt catch til its almost all the way up. It's a 92 Accord EX and I just bought it. Does this mean the clutch isnt used that much?

Is it still the orig. clutch? By not catching till the pedal is almost all the way up could be a sign that it is going.

the feel of the clutch is also dependant on the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder + the springs that are visible behind the pedal, you can change the feel of it and make it much stifer for about $150, also the feel of the pedal will change from an aftermarket clutch

My accord there are two bolts if i remember if you follow the clutch pedal up. I forgot which way i turned but it allowed me to adjust wherethe clutch would catch on the pedal. My 92 Pedal used to have to go up all the way but now i got it down to about halfway before it catches.

I bought my accord with 114k, and the original clutch. At about 200k it started sliping under heavy acceleration......this is a key indicator that the thing is done. The motor would reve up, but I wasn't accelerating at all. As you can see, the rivets got the better on the pressure plate. Sure was fun to change.....

there is a small bar that allows u to adjust the catching point when releasing the clutch, the guy in a shop taught me how to do it but i never really did. the bar is located at the top of the clutch pedal. so put ur head underneath the steering wheel and you will be able to see it.

In terms of the 6th gen, 5spd models, is there a way to adjust the clutch engagement? I absolutely hate how springy my clutch pedal is.

Thanks to everyone who's replied. I realize there is a method of 'adjusting' the clutch pedal, but that only affects WHERE it catches. It has no affect on the release of tension close to the floor, nor the distance it takes for the clutch to completely engage. I'm looking for the 'feel' more than the distance adjustment.
