H22Z
Hi
My buddy just bought a 2000 Prelude sold new in New Zealand. I was telling him with some confidence that it would have a H22A engine - but in fact it has a H22Z engine. I've done a search but there doesn't seem to be any info on Honda-tec, and a google search brings up nothing factual.
So does anyone know what is different about an H22Z? (like Satan srv)
Thanks

This is true. I have an H22Z1 block in my car-- it was a replacement block for an extreme oil consumption problem, which Honda Canada fixed under warranty.
I complained about the designation when I got it, and the dealership told me that was the code Honda uses for its replacement blocks. My car is a 2000 base, fwiw.

yeah, it's still the same block. just with a different code so that future buyers/et al will know that it's not the original motor, but still an OEM replacement from Honda.
nothing to worry about

An update - my buddy went to Honda in Wellington NZ and spoke to a service technician who told him, wait for this, its un-freakin-beleivable that 'the A stood for the SOHC and the Z was the DOHC'
After I told him about the replacement OEM engine thing he went back and asked again about what the Z suffix meant, and if they could tell him if the engine had been replace (this car was sold by Honda NZ new). After intially telling him "they don't provide that sort of information" and asking "why did he want to know" someone claimed that year 2000 NZ new Preludes had that as the original engine.
Now given their track record so far I'd take that as probable bull sh*t but my buddy is now convinced that his engine is the original. However is is now wanting somewhere else to service his Lude - for some reason he has very little confidence in the Honda service department.

How about "convinced that his engine is the original"

Thansk - already tried this.
Actually nothing returned that confims what a H22Z is, even a forum topic which is headed H22A vrs H22Z talks about the Type S engine, but the type S engine is a H22A (I looked at a JDM Prelude type S yesterday). A dead site called preludecrazy may have had some factual info.
The answers from the people on this site who got Ha22Z's as replacement OEM blocks is about as credible as you can get.
