backwards shifting, please help
I don't know what the hell is the matter w/ my 93 lude. From first to second the tranny shifts hard which I found out was common with many of this model, but the problem is fourth gear. My handbook says it is a five spd auto but fourth gear never lasts very long,. Also when cruisin at about 60-70, the car will be in fourth but under load such as climbing a hill I will depress accelerator slightly and it will shift into 5th. Why would it do this, I have readjusted the shift linkage to the tranny many times never exceeding the 3mm limit of travel. I hope one of you have an answer.

well the book happens to have a typo, anyway the damn thing actually feels like it is shifting and the tachometer shows my frustrations, why the hell is the revs dropping when I give it gas and go up when I let off.

no but really, none of you all have any freakin idea as to what causes the car to drop and increase rev's by about 400 rpm under different load conditions. This problem is really annoying and I wish I could fix it asap.

it's downshifting, plain and simple. When your rpms go up, you're in a lower gear.
