Default do i have to replace my egr valve...or can it disasemble and be cleaned

hey all....first off...where is the egr valve in my 1990 accord...and second...since it cost like 175 can it be fixed by me instead of buying a new one...i belive it is the culprit to me be robbed for gas... i was also told that the 02 sensor could be the prob....i think the egr is tho cuz it hasnt been replced and on the rare occasion the idle jumps up and down...any help is greatly appreciated thanx

i dont think its your egr valve if its idling up and down. check this link if it idles up and down this might help to clean you IAC Valve. is you CEL (check engine light) on?

here is the same year and stuff this on is on a 92 tho same engine

First off, I'll answer your simpler questions, then we can move on.
1) EGR Location
1a) Refer Linked Illustration (#17)
http://www.hondaautomotivepart...81%29
On the transmission end of the Intake manifold. It is retained by two studs w/nuts

2) "Can it be fixed by me instead of buying a new one?"
2a) It can be cleaned (The valve seat portion on the bottom) but the rest is unservicable
* It can contribute to drivability issues and MIGHT cause a loss of fuel economy, but they seldom require replacing.

3) Idling up & down
3a) Most times caused by crud buildup in the Throttle Body and subsiquent IACV involvement. If either of them are dirty, it can cause the IACV to 'hunt" while trying to maintain the 700 RPM idle.

thanx bro...that actully helped a bit... no probs idling...but still large amounts of gas consumption....only 400km to a tank and thats not even me beating on the car...i know its automatic and that takes away...but wat else could cause such crappy milage....my buddy gets 550 to a tank on his! thats a big differnece....the car feels like a mule...u press teh gas and it takes like five minutes to get up to a good speed unless u put ur foot to the floor...is tht common or is it just one problem causing me all this grief?? again thanx for the help it is much appreciated.

No, it's not common. The '90 chassis is as light as the 3rd Gens' and has the 2.2L engine, so it normally steps along pretty good.
1) you may have an issue with the transmission downshifting. If it's fluid hasn't been flushed in the last 50k miles, some of either the shift or spool valves could be hanging up; making the trans reactions sluggish.
The trans could contribute to poor(er) milage, if you're pushing harder just to get it to accellerate.

2) Normal Milage Items:
Air Filter
Fuel filter
Engine state of tune

3) Abnormal Milage Items:
Oxygen sensor
Catalytic Converter

Start simple

I would definately replace the O2 sensor at this age of the sensor (15Yyears) this your main sensor to tell the ECU to add or take fuel, I do smog repairs/testing when a car comes in for a failure this the first sensor I check, also you might want to apply vacuum to the egr valve if the engine does not stall you should clean the egr ports, if you need more information on how to do this I can send the instructions from honda.

the car went in for emissions last month and passed by crazy amounts....and the milage was the same at theat point in time...hte full exhaust is new including the cat...so which 02 do i replace...i was told there weas two...i am thinking the one on the manifold... i think i will also change the tranny fluid...took a look at it today...looks red...but i havent changed it since i bought the car and doubt the guy before did...so i think i with use royal purple atf. now wen it comes to vaccuum leaks...i hear a whining...i thought it was the alternator but it might be a vaccuum leak...i will check that tomorrow and keep posting with updates as i change items

There's only one o2 sensor on your 90 accord, DX,LX models on exhaust manifold EX on "A" Pipe. secondary O2 sensors did not showed up till 1996 on accord's 4 cyl and on 1995 accord v6 models.

vaccum leak sounds like a hissing more than a whine. I would check your accessories to make sure that none of them are causing the whine
