RSX Type S or 06 Si
I was think of getting a new car, but can't decide between the RSX type S or the new Civic Si. RSX seems more refined and upscale.... Si seems more sporty and more fun...
Any suggestions?

i was going to get a type s......but I went SI for these reasons
-newer technology (suspension especially)
-limited slip differential (more trackable out-of-the-box)
-i'm still young(23), driving a civic fits
-way more bang for your buck......I saved 5 grand canadian

I have an Si and it pulls like champ only thing different from RSX is the Throttle cable versus drive by wire issue. Yeah you get 4 more hp under current SAE standards, but the rsx has a throttle cable and is very responsive where as the si has drive by wire and lags some and has the rpms hang up when shifting which is ok since it stays in VTEC
I would get the 06 rsx due to the fact its the last model year its going to be offered. Speed wise the rsx is a bit faster as previously stated!...Good luck on your choice!!
I'd personally rather the rsx-s. But here where i live the civic si costs 26k cdn. and the rsx-s costs 34k, so for the price difference i would get the si. But in the US there doesnt seem to be a whole lot of difference in pricing between the si and type s for whatever reason.

Im joining the club. Im also in a predicament between both the Si and the Type-S.
However, My dealer is offering me a steal for a type-S complete with all factory options and A-spec package for only $23,900 US. Its also the last year so it might retain more resale value if you fall into a predicament. The Si is simply a less luxriuos car than the acura. So it comes down to taste. They are both very nice cars. I still cant decide.

Have you seen/driven a new Si?? Not to knock the Type S (I used to own one and loved it), but I don't see how it is more "luxurious" than the Si..Is it b/c of the A badge lol??
If you want to talk luxury options, I think the Si is one step up with the Navi option..
As previously mentioned, hooray to removing the tie rod end from the strut on the Si!!

Some people may argue leather seats.
I kinda like cloth ones though. And even though I havent sat in the FG2 seats they look very comfy lol.

Yeah, but If i got the Si w/ navi. the price will be close to my type-s (23,900) so why not go with a car that has a better resale value. besides, who keeps a factory stereo in their cars these days. Changing the stereo is a common mod. putting a navi in the type s wont be difficult.

We weren't talking price, we were talking "luxury"..
And if you go to the level of putting aftermarket parts to add luxury, then according to this theory, you can take a Pinto and make the options more "luxurious" than either of these cars lol..
And I wouldn't be quick to say that the Type S will have a better resale value over the Si.. If you want to equate predecessors, the 99-00 Si had an amazing "hype" resale value that this new Si will probably have just the same.. The GSR (the Type S's predecessor), did not have this same "hype", even though it was the better option at the time..

The only problem I have with the Si is that I barely fit in it. Im 6"4' and its a tight ride. I've sat in both the type-s and Si. The type-s have more room for me. I believe that it comes down to personal preference.
They are both great cars with similar prices. And they both have their pros and cons.

I agree. I like the look (interior and exterior) of the Type S way better than the Si. Drove both, and i like the Type S better. The seats are nicer imho and the inside was clean and simple. I dont really like the Si's interior....a little too weird for my taste. plus, in socal you're seeing Si's for just as much (if not more than) a type s.
Performance is pretty similar between the two, so it just comes down to preference.

RSX type-s for sure. No drive-by wire (I hate that crap in my mom's car, BMW 530i, you step on the pedal and it takes like a second for the computer to recognize this, then all the sudden you get this burst of power.
), It has plenty of parts already out for it, and when you add body work to it you have the option of making it look like a type r, all parts factory painted to match. Much prettier in my opinion. Plus, IPS K2 cams??? That's deff amazing and my route after I get my K20A2

get an SI and be some of the first SI owner in you area=priceless
Plus it make motortrend car of the year. Not many Honda and Acura can do that.
RSX are nice but you see it everywhere now.

True. And the Si has a lot of new features that the rsx doesn't. Its got a differential, EBD, Daytime running lights, an airbag safety detection feature etc... This could help save some bucks for insurance expense. It also got mp3 and digital card reader. The Si is nice and is definately the most bang for your buck.
Now if only I could fit in it.

IMO
Type-S > SI
That goes for performance and looks. What I really dislike about the SI is the dash gauges. Some digital, others with needles .. seems like they couldn't make up their mind and it wound up looking weird like another person said earlier.
SI has LSD and thats nice, but that can be added to the Type S if you want it.
SI is drive by wire, ekkk enough said.
Si is still a civic.
Ultimately the choice is yours, what will really help you decide is when you test drive both

I prefer the Type S as you can see. I don't really care for the new Civic's look, outside or in. I still look at my car everyday and love the way it looks. Sure, the Civic has LSD but I don't really need it, and I certainly don't need Navi b/c I'm sure not lost much.
However, drive and choose what you want, not what people in this thread are saying.

The big thing that affected my decision was the safety.
The Si has many more safety features than the Type-S. And the
Si is a new car with new body design. You cant beat that.
As for the drive by wire. Im sure you could tune it to reduce throttle lag.
Its been done on the Nsx as far as I hear. Also, many reports say that the throttle lag
is very minimal depending on what rpm you are at.
Man, but its still difficult to choose. Both cars are very nice.
Oh yeah, its motor trend car of the year. that should affect your decision too.
Look for motortrend's review of the Si. It usually airs on speed channel.

Personally, I would choose the Si for a few reasons alone...
1 - The Si has Honda's latest and greatest suspension design. You can pretty much rest assure that they took the RSX's suspension, worked out all the bugs they have found through the years, and ended up building something better.
2 - The Si has Honda's stiffest frame. This means it's safer, but this also means that the chassis is better suited for performance driving (ie Road race, autocross, etc). Simply put, stiffer frame = better.
3 - LSD. Yeah yeah yeah, you can put one in the RSX too - but don't forget that you're only adding to the already bloated sticker price if you choose to do so.
Everything else just comes down to personal preference. (Yes, even the drive-by-wire is all about taste. You can't say it's better or worse. And ~4 less horsepower? What? That doesn't make any difference whatsoever, plus it can be remedied.) The Si is simply a better car than the Type-S..... Even though I personally like the Type-S more.

I just picked up a galaxy gray Si. I've driven an RSX-S, even supercharged. I still picked the Si. It feels sooo much better. DBW, learned how to deal with it within a couple of hours, no big deal. I don't even notice it now. The suspension is much more stable in the Si, the power steering is super quick in response and lightness. The best description of the engine sound is close to an S2000.
But yeah, it does come down to preference. I've always been a Honda Civic Si fan.

paperwork is going through for my black si as we speak, pickin it up on wednesday, cant wait. 1st black si in Vegas= priceless
these next 4 days are gonna be the slowest in my life!!

I would take a DBC over a DBW in a car anyday. I hate my DBW system on my GTI because it limits what you can do to the ECU in the sense that you would have to do a full ecu flash as opposed to using piggy back computers and such. I think its harder to modify
