Default JDM itr header VS. Mugen.

Is the Mugen header for the itr really worth the extra money? If not, is the JDM itr header the one for me?

IMO it's not worth it go Toda or SMSP if your gonna have a highly modified 1.8L if not just go JDM DC 4-1 it's better

This should give you an idea of what a JDM Mugen header will do for you versus a JDM Honda header... Of course since this is on an engine dyno, you can't look at the actual numbers, just the differences in the data plots.

Personally, I think the JDM Mugen 4-2-1 is the better header. It flattens the torque curve a little, and provides more midrange than the JDM Mugen 4-1. Also, it still peaks a couple hp higher than the JDM Honda header and about 500 RPMs sooner. I think we can all agree that the car needs the extra power from 5,000 RPMs to 7,750 RPMs more than it does from 7,750 RPMs to 8,400 RPMs.

The design is so similar anyway. The Mugen is goign to look a lot better than the JDM, but when it comes down to it, it isn't really worth like $600 just to have a header that looks better if you don't get a big HP gain to go with it.

That Mugen dyno plot is not fair!!! The gain could be caused by the Mugen Silencer.
They should have tested the STD header with the Mugen silencer also. I think the difference will very small then.....

Yes ! That`s what I`ve thought.
I think, the difference smaller under fair conditions..
For my choice , there are only three headers:

JDM ITR (good gains for good price)
Hytech
SMSP

HT and SMSP are the two headers which seem to make a huge difference and are the "top end" in gain and price. Toda and spoon are just a compromise.

Yes, I can read it. Did you remove the inner tube of the collector?

I haven`t worked the header, it arrived two days ago..
If everything works for me, I`ll give my R to Idol-Motorsport next wednesday.
As you read, the cams have to be swapped and after seeing so many cams cracked, I will NOT do this on my own. The guys at Idol have done this hundreds of times..
Well, they will also clean the header (sand), work the collector and install cat, b-pipe and muffler. It`s custom made, so I will get street-permit (important for me, because I drive it daily).

Some settings have to be done with the power fc and after all that I think 190whp is realistic.

Even the best catback exhaust will only yield 1-2 whp on an ITR with bolt ons...the shape of the curve is what counts! The JDM Mugen 4-2-1 and 4-1 are pretty substantial improvements over the JDM Honda 4-1 if you ask me.

But that's on a USDM ITR with USDM header, right?

No, that is with a JDM sized header and high flow cat...the exhaust is the least beneficial component. At most, 2-3 whp on an ITR with intake, header, and cat already in place...

HYTECH
Unless you have a fully prepped track car that is never driven on the street:

Approx. 8" longer header with no lower header bracket
Shaving of flywheel cover that still barely enables installation

I think we can all agree that the car needs the extra power from 5,000 RPMs to 7,750 RPMs more than it does from 7,750 RPMs to 8,400 RPMs.
Speak for yourself.. I am never below 7750!! HAHAHAHHAHA!
