Which infinity speakers for 4th Gen
Am after infinity 6 1/2's all round, (component up front). Have searched, finding mounting depths that would fit, but many of the speakers I found quoted by diff users are kinda hard to find here in UK or there are newer models. Which should I go for, Reference or Kappa range? Which Kappa ones will fit? worth paying the extra?
Or even better could someone help me with definite mounting depths to avoid fitment issues, for front, & back (avoiding hitting rods). Then I can just find any speakers to match the allowed mounting depth. (I did search, a little over 2"?? I just wanna be sure of an axact size that would fit for front & back, since I am ordering online, can't check in car before payment
)

What amp are you using?
If you arn't using an amp I would get the cheapest components you can find. More expensive components almost always NEED more power.
If you don't have blown speakers I would say to seal the doors first. Well either way you need to seal and deaden the doors or it won't sound good.

to figure out what speakers will fit, tak eout the old, and measure from the surface the speaker mounts to, to the back of the plastic piece. and if you wanted to fit something deeper, cut the back off and measure how far from the mounting surface to the window (when rolled down) give your self some room to play around with though.
you COULD make a spacer to bring the speaker out closer to the door panel, but then you have to figure speaker excursion to see if you are going to hit the door panel (unless you modify the door panel. but that's getting into custom crap. just pull your door apart and take a few measurements. either that or check crutchfield and see what they say.
BTW, the rear speakers are different, you'd have to remove the trunk springs to fit a deeper speaker unless you added a spacer to bring the speaker up some

I have infinity referance 6 1/2 in the back with the infinity covers. and I used to have the infinity 6 1/2 components in the front. and they sat fine in the car. never had a problem with clearance. I think the kappas are a bit deeper but should fit.

Its a good idea to keep the plastic water shield, but you can trim it some to get a little more room.

it all depends on the sound you want, and what headunit you're using. for example, pioneer headunits favor deftones (big highs and big lows) so infinitys match up great because they bring out the midrange. or JLs are good too but those are pricey. pioneer speakers have a nice neutral sound, they sound decent with most any deck, and they're cheap for what they are. i have an OLD set of MB Quart components in the front of my LS and they sound killer on my pioneer HU, and especially on my alpine HU. by the way, i'm running gsr door panels so the tweets are mounted in the stock location.
ok, should have given more info on my setup..... Got Sony MD headunit 52*4W, and Vibe Active 12" 350W RMS (i think) sub/amp matched. Planning on powering front & rears off my headunit - for now anyway.
Previously had this setup in my civic, with infinity reference components up front, & pioneer 13cm in back, though wasn't as pleased with the pioneer as infinity, bt then infinity were bigger speakers. I previously made a wooden spacer, to keep the water cover, however door panel was not fully closing, no big deal though, just the bottom wouldnt clip in fully. Leaving those speakers in the civic, swapped headunit&sub/amp over to prelude, all my stock speakers are blown!! when bought the car lol.
So are all infinity reference components the same depth clearance? or will all fit in without problems?..... can I keep the water cover for all of these, without using any spacer/modification.

sonys have a really neutral sound curve. in fact, too neutral for my taste, i think sony HUs sound flat, they **** me off. that being said, your speaker choice will really define your sound. if you want midrange, infinity, bostons are really basey. i would probably opt for JLs, although they are $$$. do some searching, there are some good links to other sites and threads with all the info you need. check out http://www.elementaldesigns.com but i may have the url wrong. my old roommate, ludemandan started a thread a while back and he came upon some great links, if you find his thread you might find some good info.
In my opinion you have 3 options in order of quality, and cost.
1. Save you money and get a good amp($75 on up) and a good set of components ($150 on up).
2. Buy your good amp ($75) and a decent set of components($90).
3. Buy some cheap components($50)
Don't underestimate the headunit on a good set up. If you just want bass you can get put a cow in the trunk and make it fart. If you want a good sounding "system" you need a good headunit, and amps.
I have by no means a badass system, but if I had the funds I know what it would take.
