ATS First gear (3.077)
Why not use the ATS 1st gear (3.077) with the 4.929 FD (besides cost). According to the gear calculator, if you had both 1st and FD installed, your rpm's going into 2nd would be 290 higher (5747 vs. 6037), and you'd be 2mph higher (40.3 vs. 38.3). So, you are less likely to have wheelspin due to a taller 1st, and you'd make up for stretching out 1st, by blowing through second. I was only able to find one past post on a quick search, but I figure a lot of people have probably looked into this. Thanks.
-oh yeah, assuming you had a decent amount of power, or were going to have, say 200+whp.

In my 95 GSR tranny, I'm contemplating on dropping in the 3.077 1st and the 4.929 FD, along with a ITR 3rd gear....
Or just do itr tranny with those intended above...
Or just get an si tranny and do those mods and ats lsd too...

Well ...this is the way I understand it
-ATS 1st gear does not require the ATS countershaft included w/ the 4.929 FD
-ATS 4.929 FD requires the ATS countershaft supplied
-ATS countershaft requires JDM 1st gear
If you need the ATS countershaft for the ATS 4.929 FD ...then how could you use the ATS (3.077) 1st gear? You can't use two countershafts at once ...maybe I'm missing something.

New 1st gear ratio - 3.077, just add ATS countershaft side 1st gear.
Used with the stock mainshaft - no need to purchase ATS mainshaft.
This doesn't make any sense...to me at least.
It does seem like something wouldn't work right....but
it should all work out!
Their first gear is one of the new mods I am adding to the next stage of my R's plan. After experiencing Rodneys 1st gear feeling and my almost stock setup with just their FD I am interested in doing it.
I had some major spin last Auto-X in 1st. Nothing I couldn't handle but, something worth worrying about when I do the Toda B's. I am also interested in a 5th gear NOT THE GSR 5th. Somthing higher than the GSR but lower than the ITR's.
Anyway the ATS 1st is a new mod to add to my list, the 5th may just be a thought. Don't get me wrong I do Not NEED the 5th gear, I'm just thinking down the road when I get the cams installed and have a more aggressive setup, by then the 1st gear will be a neccessity.

I can get both ATS 3.077 1st and 4.929 FD real cheap, and I wanna put it in my GSR tranny.
I dont know if I should get ITR gearing for 2nd and third as well, but I know that by slapping them into my 95 GSR tranny, I'll be accelerating a lot harder, since I'm laying out 190 WHP on a stock GSR bottom end anyway
I also heard that it'll shave off like 3/10th of a sec off of my 1/4 mile time....
definately a good mod in my book.

well, i have b's, toda flywheel, ATS slip and 4.929 and first is just about useless under power. i will be running the 1/4 this weekend, and we'll see how i fair on the 60'. stock itr motor with 0 camber, i got a 2.0 60'. this time i have the ATS parts and a lot of negative camber (-3 degrees) so we'll see. then again, i'm not a dragracer. i am contemplating the ATS 1st, and this weekend will be the judge.

Keep me posted on your 1/4 mile time.

No it wouldn't, this will make first gear longer, i.e. you'll be in it longer, hence higher mph! Doesn't this make sense? Hope I'm right.
Why would you want to shorten first? That doesn't make any sense, you'd really roast tires in first!

oh ok, yeah if its making it longer then yes will increase MPH, I thought he was talking about upgrading to a shorter gearing, not sure why he would want ot go longer unless turbo/super charger ???
he also mentioned higher RPM ... so one way or the other I guess its contradicting, since you cant have both goign same direction.

Not that it looks like Greg needs any help or defense in this area but, with the stock FD it's top speed in 1st would be 40.6 MPH at 8500 RPM. with the ATS 4.929 and the ATS 1st it will top at 38.6 MPH at 8500 RPM.
The REAL 8500 Not the indicated 8500 which is off by at least 400 RPM.

.....actually it's 8600 if you want to nitpick.
BTW it was so buried near the indicated 9k that I just felt bad and HAD to shift!
So, 8600 it is then, It's so off by then you really can't tell.

PS shiftlight is coming soon, I wanted one last event.

Doesn't a full Toda (or Jun) build up count, is this not fast enough/enough power to justify 3.077 first gear? I think it is.
Nah, the tq isn't great enough to justify it imho..... If you're spinning tires, you need some stickier ones...
TQ is what spins tires, and it won't be nearly as great as is on a turbo car - this is a 1.8L we're talking about...
It's all good Anton. I was j/k, but it's true that 8600 is the fuel cut. I've hit 8620-8650 before somehow (according to the peak hold function on the vafc). I think you were spinning b/c 1st isn't where you need to be at autox anyway - just leave it in 2nd. I'm gonna try that on at least one of my runs this weekend...
Must.... practice.... self-control... leave it in 2nd... don't shift to 1st..... <-----what I need to tell myself b/c on tight corners I have a tendency to shift to 1st and spin the dogshit out of the tires.
