Default Prelude City Lights...

I was just wondering if anyone has seen 4th Gen City Lights? I am about to help my friend fabricate some on his 00 Civic Si and was thinking about installing them on mine while we are at it. Has anyone one seen this done to a 4th gen? Anyone have a DIY write up on it? I have searched and cant find anything. Thanks!

doesn't sound too hard, you might have to add a relay somewhere though. good luck, and learn from your friend's civic.

OK, I'll be the first to ask. What are "city lights"?

i thought city lights were lights inside the headlight that are always on, like in 5th gen preludes. on 4th gens, when you turn your lights to the "driving lights" position the turn signal lights up, at least thats what i think. on my 5th gen, when you do the same thing, a bulb in the headlight turns on, not the turn signal. and in the 5th gen, the city light does not flash or blink when you turn on the turn signal, but on a 4th gen the driving light (the turn signal) does blink/flash.

that' funny. In Europe, they're called "parking" or "marker" lights, and are a legal requirement on all motorcycles. In the US, we just have laws stating that motorcycles need their headlights on at all times, so we don't need them.

This is what city lights look like on a 00 Civic Si.

And I am guessing since no one has really seen them on a 4th gen then does that mean that no one else has them?

And can anyone post pictures on the 5th gen lights that are inside the headlight please?

I believe all cars have city/parking lights. When you turn on the headlights just put it on the first click and only the front city/parking lights should turn on.

I am not referring to the corner lights...I am talking about the little light that is INSIDE the headlight housing, not the corner. If you look at the picture again...there is an xtra bulb...

Get yourself some JDM headlights. I am under the impression that they have city lights. Where the Hi-beams are, are daytime running lights in Japan, and the where the Lo-beams are in JDM land are adustable Hi/Low-beam bulb. This is what I've heard, someone correct me if i'm wrong.

I have them but the function as the USDM ones the Hi beams are for hi beam and the Low beams are for low beams. If it is supposed to work in another way I would like to know because I have seen many people talk about this about the JDM headlights

yes that is a picture of the turn signal light on...but the amber light that is inside the head light is its own light and can be turned on and off also.

the fourth gen doesn't have a "city" light in the "headlight" oem or jdm.. all there is are the low/highs/and corner.. ? confused

"city lights" mean having your signal or a random bulb staying on , am i correct or?

i would want to make my fourthgen bumper lights (the two center pieces) to also stay on with the side ones. so it can looks all lit up like an DC or something.. i think what you need is just another relay and splice the wires right?

AnthonyG2003.. what are you trying to do to the fourth gen - "city lights" on the inside of a fourth gen headlights? where would you make or put the socket?

Well then you can't do it since are turn signals arent inside the headlight, we have a parking/city light and a headlight, all you need is to fabaicate another blub inside.

It is not like this, so I correct

The JDM headlights are exactly like european ones, except they are onepiece.
The outer reflector is used ONLY for lowbeam, even if the bulb has low and high.
There are only two wires coming to the bulb.

The inner reflectors (where H1 bulb lives) are for highbeam.

However in some european countries (ex. England, Sweden I think) they have an additional circuit: daytime running lamps - in this case these are the high beams that are on but they are switched on via a kind of resistor and glow dimly )maybe 30% of power).

But except these countries where highbeams are adapted to be daytime running lights, there was no separate lamps.

The pics showing a 5W bulb in civic is a standart european parking light. Even 1988 civic have them here.

when i lived in europe the city lights were used just like regular headlights since the cities are very well lit so the purpose of the city lights was to look like headlights are on because in europe (or at least the part i lived at) u can get severe penalties for not having ur headlights on in the city even if you can clearly see verything without the headlights on so we just used them to be legal basically, does that make sense?

All you gotta do for a 4th gen is find out how to keep the turn signal lilted, put a brighter bulb in the city/parking light and your set.

See I knew that they weren't for that use. Also how could this additional circuit for the daytime running lights be done ina 4gen with the JDM's?
