Also are you able to hear vtec engage in a factory gsr? Cause mine has factory everything basically (exhaust, intake, ect.) Do you mean a duel stage intake manifold, rather than vtec? Because the vtec for a stock gsr should engage around 4200rpms, depending if certain conditions are met. The secondary runners on the stock intake manifold will open up around 5700rpms.

I have the same car, a 99 FBP gsr. Vtec engages at 4400 rpm's. The engagement isn't very loud, especially on a stock engine, although I can always hear the crossover. Take it for a spin and watch the tach as it crosses the 4500 mark, you should be able to hear the crossover and feel the power difference. Good luck

on a stock gsr it is pretty hard to hear vtec and the secondaries engauge. i have i/h/e and i can hear mine engauge at 4400 and hear the seconardies at around 5700 rpm. if you really want to hear it and you are cheap get rid of the intake resonator which is located in your passenger fender, or take the cover off your intake box. you could also just unbolt your axle back and take it for a spin, then you will really hear vtec.
