EGR Removal???? can it be done and how hard?
I heard that you can remove the EGR system? I have a problem with my EGR valve and im looking to get rid of it. Is it hard to do and how is it done???
Thanks
Thanks
You have OBD1 or OBD2? With OBD1 you could buy a block-off plate to cover the hole. Been done. With OBD2 I don't think you could run the car without it, you will have a code.
OBD1 will still have a code, but the actual EGR valve can be unbolted and moved as long as it's still plugged in.

interesting, i always thought that obd-1 could run without egr and still have no CEL. is there a way to keep the stock ecu and remove/block the egr without having a CEL? sorry, didn't mean to thread jack... just curious.

Yeah, when I unplug mine (OBD1) I will get a code after a few minutes of driving. It's just an EGR code and doesn't hurt anything, but still... The only way I know of to delete without a code is to run a standalone ECU or I'm sure there are ways to mod the stock ECU....

same here.

An aftermarket replacement ECU that is made for tuning & performance purposes like an AEM EMS, Motec, etc that plugs into a laptop computer and lets you control every aspect of your cars electronics. They're expensive, but all you'd have to is press a button and the ECU wouldn't care if you had an EGR or not...

no, it still needs the EGR.
right now my egr hangs against the firewall, no code and it doesnt cause problems.

I have a block off plate on mine but it doesnt throw a code. I got this intake manifold from someone else tho so i didnt do it myself. How much of a performance gain is this from disconnecting EGR?
if the egr is owrking right you get absolutely no performance gain from not having it. the egr system allows for better emissions and for more advance timing at part throttle operation. this allows for the better emissions as as well as presumably better fuel economy.
the only way the egr can hurt performance is if it becoem stuck open.
