Where are you trying to place your powerband, midrange or topend? That will affect your decision, and do you have an exhaust, if so what size piping do you have, because that will affect your collector size. And exactly how much are you looking to spend, cause you said no 1000 dollars but does that inlcude 600-700 or is that still to much.

i have a greddy evoII exhaust(2 1/4) and a aem cold air, i'd prefer for the power band to be mid to high as apposed to low to mid, and yeah turbo would be great but i cant really afford it. yeah 6-7 hundred is okay
Do you have a B18C or B18B?
There are plenty of header, that offer a 2 inch or 2.25 inch collector. Don't forget to change your cat to a high flow so you can get the most gain possible from your entire setup.
There are different variations of a header you can choose from for more top end power. You should look into a header that has
1. a bigger diameter piping/cross sectional area
2. shorter length primary tubes
3. sequentially paired primaries.
Also, don't base your decision on, 4-1 header because its known for more top end power. Because more manufactures are making a 4-2-1 "stepped" diameter header, with large diameter collectors, which gives you the best of both worlds from a 4-1 and 4-2-1.
Your best bet would be SMSP, and RMF, just tell them what your looking for and they will be able to fab something up for you. You could also look into a comptech, or jun and toda, but those get a little pricy. But honestly, you should save up if you need to and just get the right header, and it could last the life of your car.
