Hitting VTEC not at full throttle...how bad is it
my vafc has vtec set at 5300rpm and I've noticed on a couple of quick pulls that the second lob comes on for a split second before I shift up... now I don't know exactly what my throttle position is at, but its safe to say it not a full throttle...
my question is should I worry about leaning out for that split second...

Why do you have it set at that RPM? What other changes have you made with the VAFC? Have you dyno'd it yet to see if that's the optimum point with your setup? What other mods are in the motor? What motor is it? I'll assume it's a GSR motor. In that case, if you haven't made any other changes other than VTEC point, then you'll be fine when VTEC engages because the stock ECU will already be on the VTEC map.
I would be more worried about how it is running between the original VTEC (4400) point and the new VTEC (5300) point. I would assume you'd be running rich in that area.

I've got a B17 w/ctr .25over pistons (12:1 cr) and I've dyno tuned it and that was exactly where my vtec dip was....that's why its at 5300rpm instead of the stock 5700rpm.
I pulls reasonably hard so sometimes it hits vtec pretty quick without even trying...

i wouldnt worry about it. full throttle, half throttle....it's not like it's safe to hit vtec at full throtte, but dangerous to hit it at half throttle.

it's not JUST oil pressure. if i drive with 100000psi oil pressure, vtec is not going to come on at 2k rpm.

Its not JUST oil pressure but its a start. If he needed an oil change you could tell by the pressure.
