.....Yes, I've been workinig on a solution to that for a while..... I'll post up when I have the finished product in place.

Here's a link to something like what you might be looking for:

http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...rchType%3DBoth

Then just add a control valve like this:

www.speedandstyle.com - just do a search for "exhaust valve." it's pricey though.

I think jcwhitney or summit might have something similar - I'm still searching.....

*found this:

http://www.jcwhitney.com/product.jht...D=5199&BQ=jcw2

..... mate it with the first item I posted above and you're in business. It's only 2.25" maximum I/D but the rest of the exhaust will still flow out of the stock catback..... My what a crazy "test pipe" setup this will be!

Yeah, but they only come in 2.25" sizes and are over $100!. Should still be enough flow coupled with a 2.5" y-pipe and stock catback though.....

Also, how well does it seal when it's shut? And how would it effect passing smog?

Well I was gonna add some piping (about 18" or so) after it - and you can put a blockoff plate if you're afraid of leaks...

Like I said, I've been working on this wor a while.

.....I'd be in for that price. Can you get 2.5" ones? The only ones I could find were the 2.25" ones.

This one from http://www.speedandstyle.com is the best I've seen yet. Keep me posted on your search Black R!

Thats not an exhaust cutout, thats an exhaust sound control valve (thats what they call it) it will almost completely restrict your exhaust when closed and redue velocity when fully opened, that sucker should work as good as the tornado

ummmm... I think the idea we are getting at is that you put the flow control valve after the cutout, so you can control the cutout on/off from inside the car.

here is a cutout for the uninitiated:

See how you have to actualy get out of the car to open that? I am sooo lazy.

I know very well what a cutout is (my buddy has them on his 67 Nova) but that unit is built for specific applications, it is meant to bolt between the Honda cata;ytic converter and B-pipe, The onl good cutout are the ones with the 3 bolt covers on them, they are illegal on pollution controlled vehicles, even after the cat. I have gone over the poss. of such a system for almost a year, there is no real easy way on a Honda. If you leave it as is, ground clearance will suffer and it will be extremely hard to gain access to.

I thought to create a second side-exit exhaust using a cutout, but around were I live, police would spot that in a heartbeat.

The guy above is right, a Y-pipe would have to be custom fabricated to fit between the 2.5" header and factory catback. Screw a cat. I know this won't work for you CA guys, but it's for me not you. Seriously though, you can just put a cat on for your emissions test and take it back off right after - like us GA boys do...

At the dump side of the y pipe, you'd add that cable-actuated butterfly valve (more fabrication here), then another 18"-24" to maintain exhaust gas velocity.

Clearance shouldn't be an issue unless you have it exit straight down. Have it exit towards the rear of the car parallel and at the same height of the stock exhaust (even in the same relative area as the stock catback in the exhaust "tunnel").

It'll make a lot more sense once I get one together... I'll take pics and show you.
