Default Tranny flush

A friend of mine with a AUTO 98 accord was telling me that just by draining your tranny you only get 30% of the old fluid out. He said that you need to use a machine to flush it out, and that supposedly gets out 98% of the old fluid. Does this go for manual trannys also, or is just draining it going to get just about all the old fluid out ?

I know its the prelude section. Im just saying is it the same process as an auto regarding the machine or is it not needed on a manual PRELUDE.

Well, your answer is No. No machine is needed for manual transaxles - we have a drain plug, and a fill plug - take off the drain plug, and the oil will come out.

With auto's the reason that you can'tget all the fluid out is because there's a good amount that goes through the torque converter. The only fluid that'll drain is one in the transmission. There's two ways to get completely new fluid in an automatic:

1. Keep draining the fluid in the pan and putting new fluid in (put new fluid in, then drive some, then drain, etc). If you do this 3-4 times, you should get most of the old fluid out.
2. Use the machine to draw out the old fluid. This is the easiest way, but it ruins the transmission filter. So if you're going about it this way for an auto tranny, make sure you replace the filter after you've flushed using the machine.

You have manual transmission and hence don't have a torque converter, so you don't have the problem stated above. All you need to do is drain the fluid in the transmission pan, put new fluid in, and you're good to go. Change the transmission filter while you're doing this.
