Default One6 Motorsports - Chicago: Sold me a dummy tranny..

Hi guys..

Here's my story:

Two days ago I called in to see if they had ex/si eg trannys for sale, and mark, the owner, said he had a "jdm" one that came from a single cam VTEC for 300. I was like, okay, i'll come in and take a look.

Last night I came by and looked at the tranny. First thing I asked was if he was sure it came off a SOHC VTEC. I went straight for the stamping near the fill bolt. It said P20/A000. I was like..uh, no, this is Honda's **** tranny.

He looked purplexed (sp?) and mentioned that I was the first person to ever look at the stamping, and that he sold these trannys all the time. He was positive that they came off a SOHC VTEC. I was in dear need of a tranny, and altho i wanted an ex/si tranny, he said it was two days ago, so I had to rely on his word.

I based my knowledge on only two days of research, so I asked him to call his supplier and double check, and let me know - and i took it.

On my drive home, I felt really stupid and ripped off..

I'm not hating One6, because Mark always was sincere about things and was a good guy - I know lots of you guys will agree..and maybe he was honest about not knowing the difference between dx/cx/vx trans and ex/si trans..(or maybe fooling himself to not believe)

but anyway, I just wanted to vent, cuz i'm still upset about it, and i know i have a long geared trans and i'll be screwed with it. I'mma gonna call him today even tho i know what he'll say.

he said i shouldnt really pay attention to the stamping...oh well..we'll see once i see what RPM the engine is spinning at what speed.

the P20/A000 came from either a lx,cx,dx,vx. the ex/si is P20/B000. so yeah, you got screwed

one6 is a little too laid back, there was another case where someone was screw out of a motor. Ive dealt with mark before and he seems like a good guy and all but if you feel hes wrong, demand a refund.

I feel like a dummy too, cuz i knew that info - but what could i have done?..he said on the phone two days ago that it was honda's short geared trans. I relied on his honesty and went to him cuz i needed to get a new trans for my clutch job. (i've dealt with him before, and he was always helpful)

i'm just trying to justify/make myself feel better...but i'm one sad panda..

i never dealt with garage kwai and i heard different rewiews from them..so i wasnt sure..if mark takes this trans back, then my only option will be to call those guys..

its your fault dude. you knew what you were getting when you saw the stamp. so you could have easily said you didnt want that. its your money and you didnt have to fork it over just cause you were already there. i wouldnt be surprised if he didnt take back the tranny.

I just talked to mark, and supposedly he talked with his importer and confirmed it was the SOHC VTEC tranny. I really am torn between the two, but I'm just going to take mark's word for it, and just drive the thing and see whether its the real deal. I'm getting sick of driving all which way for this ****.

oh, and dohcVTECeg2, I never denied it wasn't my fault - I wanted to vent. I wrote in my first post that I came in being told it was a Z6 tranny, found out thinking to my knowledge it was not, but decided to take it either way, cuz i needed a tranny.

i know you're saying i'm ignorant and such, but i knew that i could have been screwed..i just wished it would have been a better situation..one damn letter in the alphabet screwed my whole day.

bleh

I've heard similar stories about One6, so dont feel like you're the only one. The cars that i have seen with those stickers aren't usually running right anyway

UPDATE:

I finished putting the tranny in today with a friend.

well well well...surprised as I was...its the short gear ratio'd honda tranny altho the casing is stamped as P20 A000!!!

why do I know?

because first:
-my VX shift light it all thrown off...it wants me to upshift when i'm in 5th gear..
-the engine RPM is at what I expected it to be if I changed the stock VX tranny to the EX/Si tranny...~ 3400 RPM @ 80 mph as opposed to my ~2400-2600 RPM @ 80 on my VX tranny (i forget the exact number)

so yea...just to let you guys know, the stamping didn't mean much - I have a feeling I know what some of you might say, but In the long run, i'm happy with the short geared trans, and I'll think twice when relying on one source of information to another.

Thank You Mark, and One6 Motorsports.

oh, and expletive yo' couch..f-u-c-k yo couch..sorry me had a few beerrrs.

dude, if you knew it was a cx/dx/lx tranny or whatever before you bought it, then you weren't ripped off; you're just stupid.
