Default Can I use a '99 Si ECU in a '98 DX hatch?

I was told I couldn't because I'd throw a CEL. Would I be able to use a OBD-2a to OBD-2b converter harness and the Si ECU?

If not would a chipped P28 be just fine? BTW only posting cus I'm going to work in 2 minutes and someone is more than likely gonna post a answer instead of the usual "search". Trust me, I'd search if I had time. I'm trying to get this motor done with by Monday.

first ? to you is what motor are you using?

im kind of assuming that its a b16a2 from a 99-00 si, if so, yeah, get the jumper cable from obd2a to obd2b and use the 99-00 si ecu. but if you want to be able to tune it better in the future (hondata, uber, chrome, etc) i would go obd2a to obd1 and get a chipped p28, that way, you're investing more in the future instead of having to resell your old setup which isnt worth much because no one wants to run their cars obd2b

So you're saying the OBD-2b will work? I heard it'll throw CEL or something. If not for now just to get the car running, I'll run the '99 SI ECU. Thanks!

I believe that you can't use a DOHC ecu on an SOHC engine, unless you have swapeped and nowhere in the post did I read about a swap. Why not just get a obd2a to obd1 jumper for you harness and a p28 and chip it with hondata or some other program?

I think that's what I'm gonna end up doing. I have a p28 with Spoon chip. But I was trying to find someone way to keep it "stock". Thanks for the reply!

NO!!

One is for the B16A2, one is for a D16Y7. The heads are VERY different, so are the injectors and other ****, the ECU is meant for the fuel mappings of that motor, not yours. thats like running a toyota 4runner ECU in a civic simply cause there both 4-bangers.

And also. If the motor your running doesnt have vtec, the ECU will see that. Hense the car will run in limp mode to save the motor's ***.

NONE OF YOU ALL KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUTT.....

a 99 si ecu will not PLUG into a 98 harness.....

so NO it is not direct plug and play

you can get an obd2a to obd2b conversion harness and yes it will work.....

YES IT CAN RUN YOUR SOHC ENGINE.....i'm running a sohc ecu on my dohc engine right now!!!!

YOU Will have engine codes if you dn't have a vtec engine in your 98....

answer everything??

You kinda confirmed what I knew already. Just double checking before I go rip my stock motor out. Thanks for taking the time to read my post. BTW, the engine is a B16a2.
