Best way to drag race a new SI.
I've been screwin around with the car as of late since its broken in now and all.
I tried different shift points and styles of racin the car in the straight line.
By far the best way is to take the car past redline to say 8200-8300rpm and flat foot shift...not letting of the gas pedal.keeping your right foor planted.
This takes alittle practice.
The shifter and engine are smooth enough to pull this off...doin this will also get you a good chirp going from 2nd to 3rd aswell.
This may not be the best for the clutch but if you want quick 1/4mile times this is the way to go.
Just some things i've learned.. i bet the 1/4 mile times are gonna be in the high 14's/low 15's with a trap in the 95-96 range...stock...the car doesn't hook up all to well.

basically power shifting which is bad for the transmission and associated drivetrain I should know I see all the time as I work on cars for a living. I work for Toyota and have replace a few transmissions on the TC from people doing that as well one or two supra trans. It cause premature waer to the syncros and gears, and put alot of stress on the shift forks. The clutch also gets increased wear. If you try to get it warrantied by the manufactuer it may happen for the first trans but after that your on your own. Just some food for thought.

If this was true, Honda wouldnt have set the revlimit lower. Do you want to blow your tranny??

Why do people think chirping is cool?? THis puts so much stress on the car. Unneccessary stress. I bet you'll burn out your clutch before warranty is up. Take advantage.

This is pretty descent for a stock si. Maybe get better tires and suspension for it to hook up better or dont rev the **** out of it. Maybe all youre doing is spinning your tires.

#1 this isn't a Scion with a weakish 5 speed, these two cars are way different...but I'm not quite sure how strong the clutch is???
Powershifting isn't great for the drivetrain...but if a person is skilled enough...i'm sure this driving style will boost the performance #'s for the new SIs
With he way the Sis rev limiter/shifter is setup it actually does pretty go with this driving style...now throw in some young kid that barely knows how to even drive a manual and you can have some problems

All you haters can do you know what
This was setup to help out the guys with new SIs if they every visit their local dragstrips...
The last things I want to hear as a SIs owner is people taking out this new car and running mid 15's
I won't get into Internet bashing with any of you guys,...take this advise with a grain of salt...and if youre a SI owner and know how to drive your car well then maybe if your 1/4 mile times suck give this a shot.
I've been around a few internet forums..and have found out the best way to insure that people get best #'s from their cars is to share info..not bash or be smart asses.

You can have fast numbers or you can have your tranny live a long time, not both.
If all you want is to be a little less slow than the published #'s, sure, beat the expletive out of it, and be ready to replace parts when they're toast. Race teams do it all the time -- do you think they go all season on one transmission?
If you want to guarantee that you'll be able to drive back home after your day at the strip, then don't beat the **** out of it.
Duh.

The Civic Si is supposed to be the faster/sportier version of an econobox. Hence, econobox at heart. Uness you do some extensive modifications - like an engine swap or some kind of FI and stripping the car, it will never put down numbers like a Corvette.
Any CAR can be built for the track, but I believe the OP was talking about a stock car. He didn't list any mods, at least.
And the last one was supposed to be faceticious. I'm not judging on any motorsport
Grow a sense of humor.

I have done both drag and road racing, both are fun...both require a certain amount of skill...road racing requires alot more practise.
Launchin a car hard and powershiftin it isn't for everyone and it isn't something to do everyday, thats for sure.
Selfcontrol is the key...but when you need it its nice to know its there

i just back from richmond honda dealer. some noob just like these guys had bought the first one from them, well its now setting in the shop with a blown motor. just 74 miles on it. they dont know exactly what went wrong with it but metal shavings in the oil. the car did run but sounded like it had a diesal motor in it. so if you want to beat the **** out of any car, iwould just buy a race car from someone that has built a car to have the **** beat out of it on a track unless you have an endless amount of daddy's money to spend. HONDA JPN. wants this motor you can believe thier not gonna warranty every idiots motor or tranny failure. if it is beat on the way your talking about.

I dont know who the hell would do something like that to a brand new car!! 74 miles!! The car isnt even broke in yet... Anyway, the only thing that I can think of is they are kids. Dad bought them the car, so they dont appreciate it at all. As hard as i am working to get mine, working 50+ hours, going to school, and paying for my own apartment, I wouldnt even consider doing to my car what this guy "claims" that he is doing. Personally, I call BS. I wanna see pics before I believe him

Hi, thanks for your assumptions.
- Don't take statements so literally. The motor is arguably the heart of the car. The platform/heritage is still undeniably that of an econobox. If I gave an Armenian guy a heart transplant, would you say he's not Armenian anymore?
- I don't race my car. It's my daily driver. (Well, I took it on a rally. Once.) I'm fully aware that a base RSX is nothing more than a better-looking Civic with a nicer interior. It's not a drag car and will never be a drag car. If I wanted a drag car I would've bought one.
- I have a biased view towards swaps. If you're ever over in Kills, my boyfriend and I are the ones working on the V8/RX-7 thread. (I'm not a JDM *****.) By 'swaps' I meant something like a K24A2. These aren't terribly torquey cars - you'll need all the displacement you can get.
-I've seen civics run in the 12/11/10s. Stripped, boosted, and on the bottle, usually. At the very least you'll need a hell of a lot more than the basic bolt-ons.
Quit being a Civic Si sack-swinger.

Yawn.
Look at how many civics are running single digit times. Look at how much money has been thrown at them. Then look at how few are ever actually driven on the street.
Then look at how many RWD american (or even japanese) cars are running single digit times. Look at how little (relatively) money has been invested. And note that a LOT of them are driven on the street. Some with decent fuel economy, even.
With a shitty little 2 liter, you aren't going to make a fast car any time soon. Ricers on honda-tech always have big dreams, and few of them ever actually make it. That's why everybody makes fun of honda owners.

if this is true then why have i seen a eg turbo civic beat a corvette from a dig. the corvette owner obviously spent more on their car than the civic owner spent on his.
LS-vtec turbo eg civic hatch= $8000

who do you think will win? both are still street driven.

CIVIC is misunderstood by alot of people... I do believe no matter how good of performance that a Civic posesses it'll always be that "Econobox" in every Americans heart.. In fact thats what comes to mind of most people, when they hear Civic.
Civic is not built for drag racing???.....I don't think any car off the dealer's lot is bulit for drag racing.. Not the S2000, not the Evo or even the Skyline. But doesn't mean you can't take it to the track to have some fun.
And I don't think the Civic vs. Corvette is a fair comparison.
As far as powershifting goes, as long as you don't do it everyday, it wont hurt to have some fun, afterall you put all your hard earned money into it, why not enjoy it while you still can instead of babying it......
