After 6 years and 100,000 miles I'm starting to think about trading up. Its a hard thing to do, I'm really attached to this car. But I'm thinking either a 91-94 NSX or a 01-03 Z06

Yeah same purpose. I'm planning on ~20,000 miles per year with 1-3 HPDEs per year.

 

Are you planning on keeping the R as well, or trading it in on which ever car you get?

 

I would opt for the Vette. Cheaper to maintain from what I hear and lots of aftermarket support.

 

get the vette. was watching one on open track day. and i must say it was passing everything and didnt even sound like it was working hard.

 

i hate to say it...... but for me it is based solely on looks, and I think the NSX is a better looking car.....

yes, i know the zo6 is a better performer, but lets face it most of lifes decisions are based on "looks"

-just look at all the sociology studies done, where the fitter,better looking person gets the job.....
-your opposite sex(nobody wants an ugly wife/husband)......
-the wheels you put on your car....
-the color of your seats.....
-the list goes on.......

and with a few, well thought out mods, the NSX probably would'nt be to far off the pace.....

 

Hmmmm...kind of a tough choice. I like the NSX a lot better but the Corvette is newer for about the same price range. Not sure about maintainance, the NSX being older may directly result in it needing more maintainance. Availibility of a mechanic for each car would be a factor for me. Not sure how many peeps work on NSX's compared to Vette's where you live. Both have aftermarket support though.

I used to own a 2001 Corvette C5 six speed and it was fun. Never modded it or anything and the novelity wore off after my first month of gas bills .

I'd choose the NSX but a newer model. I just saw a 2001 NSX 6 speed with a Comptech supercharger rated at 450hp for $80,000CAD . 2001 being the last year of the older body I believe.

Seriously, you should try driving both of them, maybe catching a ride in each on the track if you can. They are TOTALLY different in philosophy, like comparing an ITR to a 5-liter Mustang (and not one of those 300-400 hp limited editions like SVO or Cobra). Similar price and somewhat similar performance, but totally different way of going about it.

Like I said, "from what I hear". I just think of the NSX as an exotic and not a race caR. I would have less of a hard time scratching my vette than my NSX.

Can't explain it. WTF do I know, I can't fit in either

Not necessarily. For one thing, NSXs often do not accumulate as many miles as Vettes. (Median mileage on NSXs is about 5K miles/year.) And a well-maintained NSX should need little in the way of repairs, other than scheduled maintenance.

Could be a factor. I guess I would be wary about buying an NSX if I lived in North Dakota... but then again, how many Z06's would the mechanic in North Dakota see? In any good-sized metropolitan area, there is usually at least one dealership and/or mechanic who does a lot of NSX service work. And the experience is only needed for the complicated jobs, like timing belt replacements. A lot of the work is actually pretty routine for a competent mechanic. So that's really not usually a major issue.

You'll pay more for a '95+ (with the removable roof panel) than a '91-94, and you'll pay more for a '97+ (with the 3.2-liter engine and 6-speed) than a '91-96. You can get a really nice '91-94 for low thirties, '95-96 for upper thirties, '97-01 for upper forties.

I've seen bigger guys than you in NSXs.

I'm not saying they looked all that comfortable, though.

 

Id choose NSX also personally. The relability should be superior to GM and the Corvette interior is still junk.

I do have MUCH respect for the Z06 performance, no question they are amazing bang for buck, but they just seem so huge when driving them and I really cant get past that interior, it looks like a damn Cavalier and your spending all that $$$.

There is actually quite a number of NSX's up here in Vancouver. A couple off-tha-chain ones too. They seem to be common place up here for some reason. After owning a C5 and driving one NSX, I would rather have the NSX.

z06, but i have never driven a nsx.

 

get the new Z06 500+ hp

 

its crazy that in your cost analysis that owning a ITR is as much as a Z06

deng if i had a choice of a nsx or z06, id probably start thinking about trading my R up too

i would choose a NSX anyday UNLESS you feel like making some noise... neighbour has a corvette put i/h/e and bigger throttle body it is louddddddddddddd as hell. i live across... and i can hear it start and idle when i am in the basement. then one of his friends that own a corvette had exhaust system with testpipes... i never heard it but they tell me you will go deaf

 

ZO6. I would not spend that much money on a 16 yrs old technology NSX.

 

I remember the Best Motoring Video "VTEC Club" stating that when maintained properly, the NSX was designed to last 30 years.

Anywho, The NSX would be my choice hands down.

 

i think it depends on how important "quality" is in your decision.

the nsx is a nicer car...but it is not a higher performing car. personally, i could careless about how nice the z06's interior is...but thats just me.

 

Get the NSX it is a real exotic car.

The new vetts are cheap plastic interiors just like all other chevy's interiors.

Z06 is fast yes but an NSX is refined to a level the vette will probably never reach. And as someone said before that is with 16 year old technology. That must mean Honda got it right wih the NSX.

Plus it is a honda, and with honda comes reliablity.

Plus I have personally ridden in Comptech Sports test NSX many times. and words can't even describe how refined that car is. I have also ridden in Many many vettes. And it is no comparision in my mind.

Get the NSX
