Default I need some real help real fast please.

I have a '97 Accord LX. 2.2L 4 Cyl Non-Vtec. I had to replace the motor because the rings went. Well when i ordered the motor i was told they didn't have any of the F22's that i needed but i could drop in the F23 motor without a problem. Well after swapping around a bunch of things the motor is in and everything looked fine until we went to start it. Now the car turns over but wont start. The place i got the motor from said the distributor from the old motor is what i would need which didn't make sense to me but now i have a complete swap done and the car won't run. Does anyone know of what i need to do to make this work.

I really need help here folks. thanks!

It sounds like the place you went to get it swapped is trying to screw you over somehow

If all else fails, talk to a honda dealer, he might know what the problem is

use the old dizzy and see what happens.

when you turn the key on does the check engine light go on for 2 sec then go off?

make sure all the harnesses are securely plugged in. go over all the grounds and plugs. I have seen good mechanics make these mistakes.

make sure the coil and dizzy wires are tight.

are you getting spark and fuel?

i can't use the old distributor because it has a different harness plug since it's a vtec set.

remember i am using a V-tec motor but without the vtec so i don't have to buy a new harness or ECU.

swapping around a buch of things??? i think we need more info.

so now you have a f23 2.3 vtech instead of 2.2 non-v.

ya... fuel and spark dude!

we have both fuel and spark. We have changed over the intake manifold, injectors and alternator from the F22 to the F23. The motor turns fine and cranks over but doesn't start. Everthing else bolted over just fine. we had to get a shorter accessory belt. that is all we changed over. same plugs, wires etc....

Get an ecu made for the f23. And wire up v-tec. You won't need to buy a new harness.

i am not worried about the VTEC so it is possible to just use that ECU and not have to modify much?

Also, do i need to try the distributor that come on the motor or does anyone know of the F22 non-vtec distributor working?

thanks to builtboosted it's running. I got new wires and that helped but now if the idle is set lower than like 1200 the car just dies out. Anyone have any ideas?

the car runs now and it runs ok once it's over 2k. Anything under that at idle and it feels terrible. Car jumps around and shakes very badly.

I have the idle set to about 2k just so it stays on and it is ok at that point. Once i drop it into gear the revs drop to about 1100-1200 and it's kind of rough but once i get going and reach like 1800+ the car drives great so the issue is just in the idle.

Now remember i am using the F22 non-vtec distributor from the old motor on the f23 vtec motor. Could it be an issue due to the cam difference?

does anyone know if i can repin the connector for the distributor on my non-vtec harness to plug into the vtec distributor? They are completely different.

Any ideas are really appreciatted folks.

thanks

is there a reason why you couldnt have just used all the f23 parts and then just put in a f23 ecu?

Id's be easier to get a V-tec ECU from the same gen car and run the wire for V-tec. The ECU can easily handle the slight increase in displacement.
