Default griniding/scraping noise in 1st/2nd/3rd gear....

what up fellas... My dad seems to think I have a bad bearing in my tranny... when the clutch pedal is RELEASED, i get a sort of knocking scraping grinding kinda noise... stops as soon as the clutch is engaged... also, when I'm driving regularly... from about 2.5-3k on in 1st/2nd/3rd gear it starts doing the same noise... with more scraping... pretty sure it's my tranny... any other ideas??

possible... i just did the clutch/pp/bearings about 6 months ago... all OEM type-r... so it shouldnt be the throw out... im pretty sure its a problem inside the tranny...

and no, it has nothing to do with suspension/wheels/tires

A grinding and knocking noise might suggest that a bearing is significantly damaged. A slight grinding/chafing noise usually indicates that there's a moderate amount of wear, but otherwise still in one piece.

If it's making the noise while the clutch is engaged and not making the noise when the clutch is disengaged, then it's probably a bearing inside of the transmission. It could be any one or a combination of the bearings inside the transmission.

All of the transmissions I've seen with worn diff, housing, and/or shaft bearings usually have other wear issues (ie: shift forks, synchro sleeves, etc.) I recommend at least having a look at that stuff too.

i'll prob get a whole new tranny... it makes the noise when the pedal is released... and when the car is actually moving in gear, it is a bit more severe... clutch in, no noise...

just replace the throw-out bearing, and use the one that is oem for that tranny. if the tranny is'nt a type r, dont put a r one in there. it wont make you faster.

This point wasn't clear; does this grinding occur with the car in neutral?

car in neutral, clutch pedal out= knocking/grinding/chafing noise
car in gear, clutch out (moving)= more severe scraping
clutch pedal in=no noise
