Default got a LS with 43,000 opinions wanted

Hey i got a LS motor chillin in my garage with 43,000 on it....my intent is to work on it and keep dumpin money into it over the course of the next couple months. I then will swap it into my current LS when it is souped up. I am not interested in boost yet. I am into auto cross. I want the engine to produce mid range power, just slightly into the upper range. I am not wanting just hardcore high end power. I have looked into the LS/VTEC but it looks way to pricey and too much of a hassle because I dont know anybody that can do it in the Kansas City area. I am looking at a semi-aggressive set of cam's, some headwork, valve-train. I don't want to exceed $3,000 in this operation and I am hoping for higher 100's on horsepower and mid 100's on torque.....opinions please? (no boosting opinions, thanks)

skunk 2 IM
skunk2 stage2 or maybe even stage3 cams depending on what kind of comp u get

hmm...are there any websites with instructions on how to do the VTEC conversion, I have a GSR laying around that is wrecked but I dont want to swap it because it has tons of miles. I don't know how to do the conversion is why i wanted to stay away from the LS/VTEC

You've got half the skills to do the required work already. All you need now is a little research.

yep take that head off that gsr and do some research, worrying about the miliage wont matter since youll be replacing alot of the internals. but theres ALOT of wirte up on ls/vtec installs so hit the search button man, it will be VERY worth it in the end. with that set up posted above youll have even more power than you want and PLENTY of torque for autocross. i had a similar set up to that in my ls/vtec crx and it put down 189hp TO THE WHEELS and 160something torque.
