Default HOW TO: DIY Apexi VAFCII Dash Mount

Note that this write-up is for the VAFCII, you can do this with the original VFAC but it requires a lot more modification and irreversible damage to the dash...

To start off, take apart the Cigarette Lighter/Tray assembly. Simply remove the tray and unscrew the 2 screws to the left and right behind it. Pull it out, but watch for the 2 clips on the top piece as they can fall off easily and be lost in your dash forever.

This is what the piece looked like after some hacking:

Not the cleanest cuts, mostly because I didn’t have a dremel and was forced to use a hacksaw blade...but hey, **** works

To make the VAFC fully flush with the dash, I found it necessary to cut out one of the screws that hold the shifter part of the dash to the rest. When I took the screw out and tried to move this part around, it was solid as can be (it’s held on by 3 other screws) so I felt it was ok for the VAFC's sake:

When I bought my VAFC it never came with a bracket, so I had to fab one myself. I had a bunch of metal from when we redid my basement, so I made a little bracket with Velcro to hold the VAFC. I'm sure the Apexi bracket would work, just not quite sure how you would mount it.

Finished bracket with Velcro screwed in and installed:

Apply the other pieces of Velcro to the back of the VAFC, stick it on your new bracket, and your good to go! Don’t worry about it being sturdy, once it was on the bracket I had to WORK to pull it off, almost took off the front half of the VAFC it was so strong.

Finished Product:

looks very nice...but are you planning to leave it in your car like that all the time? I had something very similar to your setup, and then thieves broke into my car and f*ckin ripped my afc out. After that, I found a way to mount it in the same location but at the same time, i was able to hide my AFC whenever i parked my car in random locations

yes, but i did some modification to mine. they come WAY too flimsy and unsupportive, not very good for a $300 pair of components I fiberglassed the back on mine to give them some strength:

there was a write for the vafc I somewhere, cant find it tho...its the same as the vafcII but you have to dremel a whole out of the dash because the vafcI is longer...

Ya know i Like this idea.... My only problem with it is that since i have no back seats... people can ALREADY see my stereo. I honestly dont wanna show them ANOTHER reason to break into my car....I think im gonna do a glove box mount. Pry somethin w/ just MDF but leave some space so i can use the glovebox still (for registration, insurence, etc)

good writeup. i have a GSR center console in my EF9 and i'm currently working on a similar mounting setup for my VAFC I, except mine will slide back and forth about an inch to allow a small hinged door to cover the unit while not in use......stealth, biatch!

im just guessing but i think an avc-r is the same size as a vafc1 i think thats a pretty safe guess.

i wish i had pix of it but in my old 92 si hatch i had my vafc1 mounted just above the rear view mirror. i removed the small middle sunvisor and mounted right there kinda nice it was easy to control easy to see. im thinking thats where i will mount my avc-r but i will need to find a set of the outer si sunvisors the stock integra visors get in the way just a lil. im gunna move my m300 down to the sleve below my cd player or maybe where i have my turbo timer right now then move the timer to just above the dash vent on the drivers side thats a lot of work especially to make it work good and look clean.
