Default two way valve on top of gas tank (red thing) What does it do???

Hey.. On the top of the gas tank.. (while edge) there is a 2 way valve.. 1 end goes to tank, other end goes to the charcoal canister under the hood..

What exactly does this 2 way valve do??

Problem is.. Im having a sparatic fuel leak from the bottom of the charcoal canister.. the fuel is comming from the line out of the firewall (connects to 2 way valve on tank).. So im wondering if its junked.

Its not from filling tank up all the way

Thanks!

Well the charcoal canister vents your gas vapors so im assuming that valve is for vapor only (correct me if im wrong) i didnt think fuel was supposed to come out of that line. maybe theres too much vaccum and its sucking up fuel?

The tank also has another vent in the filler neck, perhaps just used when filling? Im so lost, maybe the other vent is used (firewall) is used under normal driving to relieve excess pressure? If i knew how the system worked, i would have a easier time diagnoising it..

With the canister removed, it still leaks the same.

If the valve is for vapour only.. maybe its got some sort of seperator inside, like its only supposed to let vapour though and not liquids.. maybe its shot?

Just wondering on the function of the valve here.. Trying to get canister hooked up for emissions purposes!

The tank holds pressure, so im lost on this one..
