Default **Straightening Folded Plastic Lips like JDMShit**

Well I have the 94-97 ITR replica lip for my integra from JDMShit. As many of you have already encountered the lips come folded up in a box with a piece of paper that says to leave them in the sun and they will regain their original shape

Well its not very warm here this time of year and the sun thing doesn't seem to help ... so it has set over night several nights directly in front of a space heater ... the lip gets hot, like uncomfortable to touch, but still has obvious crease marks and non uniform shape where it was folded

Anybody else dealt with this problem?
Any tips on making it resume its original shape?

EDIT: Just looking for useful tips to help restore proper shape. NOT CRYING ABOUT THE WAY THEY'RE SHIPPED. I know I got the shipping I paid for.

not ever dealing with jdmshit before i find that shipping method to be a joke..

Post some pics of the lip if you can.. if there's a discoloration where the crease is i'm pretty sure that means you're screwed..

lol When I ordered mine I was also waiting on another part, I think it was a short shifter... im not sure, but I opened the box and I was shocked to see a lip rolled up inside. Anyway, I just put mine on my porch with the sides against some chairs, and I left it out there a week or so and it went into shape.

I don't see how that could help when its getting alot hotter in front of the heater and that doesn't help ....

i heard that most lips are sent that way. and all that is needed is a heat gun.

makes me think twice about getting a lip from them. you hear your good and bad stories. you can't beat the price though....then again.....you do get what you pay for.

It's either fold it up this way or pay close to $80 shipping for an oversized box. IF UPS or Fed Ex would even take a box that big. I deal with UPS everyday i think 56" is the length max. Or this is always truck frieght. Wich would be ridiculously for something that weighs less than 2 lbs.

comptech and wingswest folded there lips into a box and shippped it

but at least jdmshit includes instructions on how to make it straight again. urethane shouldnt break like plastic wuold. if you want it in a huge box Im sure theyll ship it for you but its pointless for them unless you want to pay for extra. like you say you get what you pay for.

I bought the JDM **** lip also about a year ago.
I got it like this in the mail:

At first i thought, "WTF???" but then i read the directions, and although it was winter time , all i did was put it next to a heater and used a hair dryer.

After an hour, it looked like this:

Almost the right shape, just had to smoothen the edges a bit with the heater, and eventually it'll look about right.
Here it is installed:

its funny that people complain about jdmshit shipping them like this, but DJ SOHC is correct, even the 'name brand' companies ship them like this.

use a hair dryer if its too cold outside

That's correct. We do offer that option if people really do want to pay extra for a huge oversized box for an unbreakable polyurethane lip that weighs a couple of lbs. It's really not worth it IMO, but it's available if you want it. Plus we can ship it faster and cheaper to you guys. If it's plastic, fiberglass, or carbon fiber, then you have no choice but to box it up in a huge, oversized package or you risk it breaking during shipping.

As Outkast95LS posted, we include instructions with all of the polyurethane lips that we ship out so you don't just open up a box with a construded lip inside like you would with Comptech or Wings West. As for leaving the lip in front of a heater over night, it's not needed and may actually want to warp the lip by heating it up too much. My advice is to put is across 2 chairs so it's hanging over on the sides (like a bumper sits when you paint it), and put that in front of the heater for about 20-40 min, depending on how hot you have it set to. Otherwise it's not needed unless you have no other means of heat. It'll form to it's original shape with no imperfections. If it doesn't, send it back to us and we'll swap it out for another one at no charge .

I hate how they ship the lips like that. Even when I leave it out in the sun the lips don't fully bend back to normal. You can still see where the lip was folded before. I've tried using a heat gun to bend it back to normal also and that **** doesn't stay. I've had three of these lips already. It doesn't bother me that much, but I guess you get what you pay for.

I don't think the heater has warped it ... I mean it hasn't changed shape, its just in the same shape. By which I mean its still pinched together quite a bit more at the points where it was folded.

I'll try the chair hanging aproach and get back to you.
Thanks

Like they said above, you want to pay 80$+ for shipping? Go right ahead, and do so, if you want to save money then get it sent folded in half, it's polyurethane and that **** is flexible like hell, I twisted and bent the lip like 5+ times and I ran it over a few times and it still survived. All I did was leave it in the sun, bend it around and stuck it on the car, when you have it heated up and you stretch it out when you put it on, the creases eventually goes away when you have it on.

no way. you may have worked for ups but there no lip that is 56inches long. we ship lips out from my homies shop all the time and the box dimensions are 75-20-5inches with the correct padding. theres no way you can ship a box that size for $20. its easily $50 or more by ups or somebody else. if you make the box 56inches long your bending the lip and then its no different than how its now shipped. those guys who say you get what you pay for if you want to pay more for a pointless huge box then go right ahead when you can use that money on paint or something else
