Default 16 inch rims

i have a 1994 honda civic coupe and plan to get 16x7 inch rims. what size tire would give me the best performance? im debating between 205/40/16 and 205/45/16. any suggestions would help very much. thx.

The 40's would give you better handling. I am not sure that you will really feel it, but less sidewall=better handling.

not much of a difference...I'd honestly just choose whichever one makes your total tire circumference closer to stock size (throws off your speedometer less). discounttire.com has a calculator

Well, the less sidewall you have the more road noise and bump input you are goign to get. I am running 16's witha 45 profile right now and I REALLY can't stand it. Personally I'd reccomand 15's with a 55 profile. That is just me though.

I'd go with the 45's... A bit more protection in case you hit anything.... Either way the tires/rims will probably take a beating if you do encounter a nice sized pothole...

use the calculator, and put on the widest tire you can get on that rim while keeping the outside diameter within spec. That may help with goin over potholes and a comfortable ride.

Concentrate on a better tire, not a wider tire. This has been discussed to death on the wheel and tire forum. but bring it there and people will be happy to help you in your decision making.

Cheers.

i'm on 205 40 16's now, and my last set was 205 45 16. I would pick the 45's again hands down. But I think I'll actually be going with 215 45 16's.
