i want to a vtec head for my car will it bolt right up? please read.
Okay i know i have posted recently alot of topics but im just in the misty of wanting a little more power out of my car.
so i was thinking what would happen if i bought a vtec head like an f22b1 because i have a f22b2 non vtec.
Would i be able just to work from under the hood or would the whole engine have to be taken out.?
and also what about wiring would i need an 94 accord ex wiring with the ECU or can i just control when the vtec will kick in manually?
also is there any steps on going about this? like DIY?
i have searched and have come up empty handed. and exactly what is the diff between the vtec and mine? do valve upen up at different interval? or do they open faster what? and how much performance will i get out of it? and will i be able to tell? and what would be a good milage to start searching for heads? like around how many miles should i avoid?
and does anyone have a vtec head for cheap? i live in newark delaware 19713.

It's a little more involved than just a pull and drop. For the money and the hassel, you might as well go buy a used B1

i agree; how many miles are on your f22 already? check your local junkyard perhaps for a low-mileage f22b1

i would agree with the above and just find a complete replacement vtec motor...
but i did do this on my old accord, its not really that hard. all you need is the head, a new head gasket (both f22b1 and b2 are the same), and a new ex timing belt. you will probably have to replace the intake manifold gasket as well..
it is a direct bolt on, i just retained my stock intake manifold and exhaust manifolds and non vtec distributer. as far as wiring you will need to run a wires from the vtec solenoid to the ecu plugs inside the car. add to that some sort of vtec ecu, different wiring steps might be required depending on what ecu you use though...

It sounds like you really want vtec, but honestly your not really going to get any benefit from it.. SOHC vtec doesn't really help with performance, helps more with economy. I mean, if you have the money go for it, better than nothing. If you have more money, just go and get the H22. Its way worth it.
You won't really notice a difference with the b1 head. If you want to get a little more involved, drop on an h23 head. Or a f22b dohc head would bolt right on but they are hard to find.

why would you put a b1 in an accord. i heard that they don't really do much for our cars

haha, I'm sorry, but that made me laugh.
Click here and go down about 2/3 of the way. You'll see F22B1, then next to it you'll see what car it came from and the specs.

THanks everyone for your responses.
So i guess a vtec head wont do much for my car
i only have a 142k miles on my engine it runs strong but i dont know maybe like i said in another post its probably the cheap *** Duralast Clutch that its not deliverying the right amount of torque to my wheels (if thats even right at all lol)

You said an H23 head will drop right in and an F22b DOHC would bolt right up? That caught my attention but im not willing to spend like 1500 for a whole new head replacement i just want a little more power so i can actually feel it. and plus i like the sound of when the vtec kicks in sounds like a 350z nismo lol j/k ill look into those heads tho i doubt they will be at my local junk yard. And what car does the f22b? DOHC comes from?
And for an H23 wouldnt it be better just dropping a whole engine in it since i suppose the block has a diff compression ratio?<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by accord95vtec »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

and just wondering will an f20c1 fit in my car? i seen alot of s2000 sadly at my local junk yard dumb as Delaware people dont know how to speed right lol

I believe the F22B comes from JDM Preludes and the F20B comes from JDM Accords. I could be wrong though.

maybe with enough money, but it's not something that will just drop in.

The H23 doesn't bolt in. You have plug like two oil passages. Not hard at all. It won't cost anywhere near $1500. The h23 does have higher compression, but your f22 block has iron sleeves, which are good for turbo. F-series dohc turbo

is it sohc or dohc. i got a sohc vtec head off a 94 accord ex with 120k on it i thought it was a 2.2 but it sounds like your talking dohc

Okay so now im confused. people say by adding the vtec SOHC i wont see any performance but if i put the DOHC i will? so example i go to the junk yard what do i ask? and you guys said the DOHC will but up with out any problems? will i need to swap the distributors and get a new ECU since my car is an LX non vtec? and along with that i would need a wiring harness? some one please explain lol
