Which 1993 Ludes are H23-VTEC equipped?
I am going to look at a Green, 1993 Prelude in the next few days, and all I know is it has the 7 spoke alloys, 4ws and 90,000 miles, and may possibly be an Si model.
What I'd like to know is whether or not this car is VTEC equipped. I'd like to know before looking for an engine stamp whether or not this car has the h23, as I don't want to buy it if not.
So, were the VTEC equipped 93's called Prelude Si's, or Prelude VTEC's?? Also, did any VTEC equipped fourthh gens come with 4ws?
Any other info you may have about these cars would be greatly appreciated!
TIA!

Yah, I know. What I'm really trying to do is save myself a trip out to see the car if I can establish it as VTEC or not.
Thanx for your help though, I appreciate it.

answer is no, 4ws were not vtec. and h22's are the vtecs. h23's are non-vtec. the prelude si and the 4ws came with the h23. prelude vtec's had h22s. least thats what i believe. a good place for reference is HondaPrelude.com. hope that helps.

The 4th gen 4ws model was only sold in the US with the DOHC non-VTEC H23a.
In the 1993 model year, the official Prelude trim lines were:
Prelude S (2.2l SOHC)
Prelude Si (2.3l DOHC)
Prelude Si 4WS (2.3l DOHC)
Prelude Si VTEC (2.2l DOHC VTEC)
The "Prelude Si VTEC" was the official name in 1993 only. In subsequent years, the VTEC equipped trim line was simply called the "Prelude VTEC" by Honda marketing materials.
Any 93-96 US VTEC Prelude will have a vin that starts JHMBB1xxxxxx...

D'oh!
The VIN is JHMBB2167PC005348, which I'm assuming means its the non-vtec. Oh, I'm bitter.
Thanks for all the information, I'm really let down now.
