What is the difference between the 96-97 Spec and 98Spec+ B18C5 motors?

The 96-97 were not made by the Jasmanians wheras the 98+ were.

some parts of the motors are hand made certain arent. the heads are hand made and ported etc by the top engineers in honda. this applies to all the R's

The 98+ Heads are ported by a machine. The 1997 and older heads were done by hand. This information was in the Best Motoring Type R legend video.
