How can you tell if the water pump/belt has been replaced like it should have been?
I know it's a must on our Honda's, so how can I tell if it's been done on mine? It's a 96 ex w/141,000 miles. Ive checked the records and nothing about it being changed, nothing documented in the owners manual.
Any visual confirmation that can be done?
Hope this isn;t too stupid of a question.. Plz don't flame if it is

Well your water pump belt is ran off your timing belt and 99% of the time when you take in your car to get the t-belt service done they do all that. I would take off your valve cover and look at the inside of the belt (side of the teeth) to see if there are any cracks or any wear.
Worst case, get it done if you're worried about it.

loosen up the valve cover then remove the top timing cover; the best place to look for cracks is where the belt is bent over backwards on the tensioner to the left of the water pump pulley.. you are looking for little cracks at the bottom of the teeth.

This is a bad belt... around 130k miles

Most all belt manufacturers stamp their Company Name, Part Number and some other Identifier on the belts they offer.
If you're lucky, there will be a Dayco emblem on the belt (It's been done).
If you've a Honda belt on it, and have no record of it having been done: anticipate having it done.
As an additional idea, ask your local Honda Dealer if they can query American Honda for the location of the last known servicing dealer. With any luck you may be able to scare up a more complete repair history.
