installing ZEX nitrous on my stock TypeR... feedback please
HI all, well I am going to be installing my ZEX nitrous kit (55hp shot, keeping it simple) on my ITR.
anyone here has has the ZEX kit, or know people with the zex kit, i would simply like to know how they are liking the system, any stories are greatly appreciated.
also, does it really make a difference installing the bottle sideways, vs installing it pointed towards the front, some people say yes, some say no, i am going crazy over this.
I want to install the bottle in back of my driver seat, so that it is easy to activate, (i am not to crazy about those electric bottle openers, i want to know for myself that the valve is closed or open using the good old manual system. Since I (please don't flame me) i mostly street race, and don't go to the track anymore, I don't like the fact of always having to open the trunk, turn on the bottle, drive around, and find that I don't need to use the nitrous, then have to purge it since I didn't use it. Basically, if i find myself at a red light, next to a SVT, or a WRX, i will simply turn on the bottle, use it... then close it off....
anyway, any info is greatly appreciated

I specifically dont' like this kit. I put it on a friends prelude Only because it was so simple to put on. It was a lease car, and he took it off for services. In the end, It ruined his motor, he got a whole new one from Honda. I guess it's little purple management box didn't help, or maybe it's the sh*tty distribution into the cylinders...there's no way it'd be even. Yes, we were only running the 55 shot too.
Well my friend put one on his stock 01 R and on street tires was runnin a 14.1-14.3 however...2 months later his car started making funny noises......not exactally sure what happened, but it ended up in the shop and was pretty costly, just be careful with it is all i have too say...I wanted one too before F&F and that.
Exactly where behind the seat to you intend to put the bottle. What sized bottle are you gonna get? If you running one of the small ones (a la Vin Diesel) then you are going to have to get it recharged a lot ($$$). Bigger bottles are less of a hassle don't you think? Also, NOS is a fire catalyst....are you sure you want such a thing mounted close to your body? Bad idea me thinks.
I was planning on installing the regular big ZEX bottle (24lbs when full) bolted down to the floor in back of my driver seat (really stylish black Sparco supersport adjustable seat, with the 4 point harness!! dammm comfortable!) , this way, it is easier to open the bottle when in need.
as far as N20 being a fire catalyst... if my chemistry days serve me correctly, Nitous oxide is non flammable, unless it is underpressure (ie, in your combustion chamber, compressed by the piston, and has to be ignited at very high temps) If you simply open a nitrous bottle, the gas that escapes, mixes with the atmosphere, and it is artic cold! (something like minus 150??) anyway, and that isn't flammable. I could be wrong, but thats what I could remember, Nitrous oxide by itself is non-flammable. However, the oxygen present in nitrous oxide causes combustion of fuel to take place more rapidly. Anyways, i do keep a fire extinguisher handy in my car too... heck, then again, if i keep it in the trunk, and some dumb *** accidentaly rams into my rear end, that will cause an explosion on its own too.. so its all trivial where to install it i guess.
my basic concern is engine wear and tear, how badly will this kill my engine on a 55hp setup, with occasional use....sorry for all the questions, nobody in my area run nitrous on their imports. only 600hp mustangs and camaros running wet 200hp shots etc...

Retard the timing 2-3 degrees and floor it.......
i roasted c-5's (VETTES) with a 75 shot!

fuel, fuel fuel - too much fuel is better than too little fuel. Upgrade your fuel - did I mention you have to upgrade your fuel - get a fuel rail, FPR, VAFC, and upgraded fuel pump....colder spark plugs and change them ever 4-5 thousand miles....also, you're going to burn more oil, so change your oil every 2500-3000 miles even with synthetic and run 10w30. 5w30 is kinda thin for NAWWWS. Good luck, it'll run fine if you take care of it.
Finally...a useful response from an ex-Nitrous user! RealTypeR, do you think the FPR and upgraded pump are necessary with an NOS 50 shot(dry)? Or would some dyno tuning with a VAFC be sufficient? We're getting ready to put a kit in a friends ITR and so far he has the following...
NOS Kit 5122
NOS Purge Kit
MSD Digital 6 ignition
MSD RPM Window Switch
NGK BKR7 Plugs
MSD Blaster Coil/MSD Cap
Also, he has had several people tell him that the Fuel Pressure Safety Switch included with the kit is useless and doesn't need to be used. Sound like BS???

Forget ZEX...Go with a quality Direct port system. Lots safer, and you can use bigger jets with less hassle...it costs a little more $$$, but a lot more work to install
I agree with Digital R - kind of - this guy is only running a 55 shot zex and I do agree that zex sucks and NOS is a better company. I've used both kits and gained 40 whp with a 65 shot zex kit and 65 whp on a 70 shot NOS kit, but of course a wet shot is going to give you more bang for your buck. If I went with a 80+ shot, definately go direct port.
- To the guy above - that set up is good. Ignition box + window switch = nice, you can IM me any questions you have - I'm tired and going to sleep now.

yea dude , run nos. and make sure you got enough fuel.
thats is the key. also i wouldnt go dry, i had problems with it leaning out on the r.
go wet or better yet direct port. that way you can know you got enough fuel and know its getting dist evenly.
i converted mine to wet and seems alot better and alot more powerfull now . i only hit it like 6 times or so though (wet) for testing purposes. . . but this **** is a blst . imo, i would stay away form the zex kit . its a good kit , but if you want to upgrade you sol. with nos you can upgrade till your heart is content

I think you should reconsider your choice of mounting location. Do you really want a 24lb bomb behind you? Essentially, that's what it is - 24lbs of metal and gas at what, 1500+ psi? Ever see the pictures of the nitrous bottle that exploded in the trunk of a Maxima? It took out a good bit of the GARAGE, too.

Odds are slim, but still...
You are in Canada as well, means you will also need a bottle warmer to keep spraying at the perfect psi. But very dangerous, if you leave the warmer on...could go BOOOOOOOOOM !!!!!!!!!

Exactly what happend to that Maxima I was referring to. Bottle heater failed to shut off - blew the *** end off the Maxima
that picture is such bullshit . i dont know where you people find that **** .
anyway i tink the bottle seal will pop, before it will explode from pressure , if it will just explode from pressure then what would the point of a blow down tube be ?
i would believe that for one minute.
