Did your prelude come with a 6x9 speaker in the middle of the back seat..help i gotta question.
sup guys i found out on my newly acquired prelude that the speaker in the middle of the back seat doesn't work, so..i took everything off and found that out that speaker foam is ripped in pieces it blew i guess...it's a stock speaker it says "alpine radio electronics made in japan" on it. Here's the problem there is a white plastic connector hooked up to 2 wires going to the speaker and there is one ON the speaker where the one that is hooked up to the wires connects into, so my question is do they make speakers with these connectors or would i have to cut the wires and the connector on the wires off and use some of them metal connectors that u put wires into to hook the new speaker up? i can get pics if yall need, thanks ,
PS. mods pleave move if it's in the wrong forum , thanks

If you go to any car stereo store, there's a plug that goes into the factory harness. On the other end of the plug there's two wires with standard after market speaker connectors. However, that speaker is two ohm and any aftermarket speaker is a 4 ohm. So just be aware that whatever you put in there will play at one half the volume.

also how do u take out the speakers that are int he front doors? take the panel off?
i have an s model and if i find that speaker in the back how hard would it be to put in my car
well mine came from factory but it looks a speaker bracket has been mounted to the metal part behind the seats and was covered with plastic piece while the second piece of the whole console is wrapped in leather, so u might wanna look into the Prelude VTEC back seat and see if you can tranfser it over or find somebody with a prelude VTEC and see how it's done and then either swap the seat or try to custom make it
The electrical resistance is measured in OHMs. So a 4 OHM speaker is providing twice the resistance as the original speaker. Therefore, (At least how I understand it) it's getting half the juice, resulting in half the volume. My plans are to replace the factory amp with a very small aftermarket one and get the necessary parts to make it work with my oem headunit.
Non-VTEC models do not have any wiring installed for the speaker, so it would be somewhat involved to retrofit this setup into a BB2 or BA8. It has been done though, by several people on here.

It really is alot of work for very little outcome. No company makes a 6x9 speaker in 2 ohms... And no 6x9 is designed to be a subwoofer as the original design of these was... Its a neat concept and awesome to have... But its not worth it to add over adding a typical subwoofer, even a 8"...
On to the 4 ohm resistance issue instead of 2... Technically speaking, it could play at 1/4 the volume as the original depending upon the amps capabilities... Thats the more likely case too... But, to explain why 2 ohm puts out more power is because 2 ohms has less resistance. Think of it this way... Is it harder to run past 4 guys blocking your way or 2 guys? The more guys (resistance) the less actual people(power) can get through...
The connector as posted above can be found at any audio place.. They usually sell pairs though..
To take off the front speakers you must remove the doors... This is a simple process of removing screws, the whole plastic window control assembly, and anything else on the door panel in the way... Any then pulling on them... from the bottom and the clips holding them in will pop right off and allow you to remove the whole door panel and access your speakers.....

i just want to replace the speaker cuz it's blown and probably add an amp for all the speakers in the cabin.
Waht if i call honda dealership and ask them for this speaker?

i have the same unit my OEM amp was acting up and my speaker was dust, so I just put a lightning audio 6x9 and just wired it to my rear 6 1/2's positive to the right positive speaker and and negtive to the left negative so it gives a even amount of sound. It works and sounds great the speaker is a 3 way speaker so it is kinda loud and does the job with out using the OEM amp which I think sucks
wait OEM amp? are you saying preludes with a OEM sub in the back seat came with an amp? PS. i'll probably be using an aftermarket amp but i do want to get this clarified about oem amp
Yea and if you replace the speaker with an OEM unit from Honda it will just blow out quicker. I just replaced mine and it blew out. You have to take into consideration how long these speakers have been sitting on the shelves. The paper is all dried out.
The output of that 6x9 subwoofer is not very good. I wouldn't spend the money to buy a Honda replacement. At best I would go to an auto wrecker and find a newer Pontiac grand Prix and take one of the 6x9's out of the back. They are 2 ohm and were designed to be subwoofers. That's what I did with my lude.
And one other correction a 2 ohm speaker does not necessarily play twice as loud as a 4 ohm. It consumes twice as much power. How loud it will play will depending on the sensitivity of the speaker and the amount power the amp produces at the given resistance, which varies from amp to amp. It is safe to say however that the stock prelude amp, being designed to run at 2ohm will only output half as much power to a 4ohm speaker. This would result in less volume if both speakers had exactly the same sensitivity. Since they wouldn't you can't exactly be sure. In my case with the Grand Prix speaker it is quieter but not half as loud. Also remember that a 10db drop in volume is perceived as half as loud.
