Default Best D series tranny?

My tranny is getting old, I can feel the bearings starting to go bad and am just waiting for my synchros to start going bad too. I have an EJ8, I'm not much of a transmittion guru, all I know is that it's the stock 97 EX transmission.

Is a hydro tranny better than a cable tranny? If so, do they even make a good hydro tranny for a Dseries? Or should I just buy all new bearings and synchro's and just rebuild my stock one?

Thanks.

Slightly different. The gear ratios are nearly exactly the same. The only major difference is the shift forks. 92-95 trannies have aluminum shift forks, 96-00 trannies have steel.

Steel > aluminum The del sol's had the same engine/tranny combo's as the civics

The gear ratios are different but so closely different it's not even noticable.

These are all true statements, but if you ever plan on adding large amounts of hp to your engine then the LSD will crap out on you. I think it's only good up to 170ish hp.

mmmm LSD... oh wait.. limited slip, not acid.. *cough*

96-00 EX tranny would be your best bet, 92-95 EX/Si being the second. Like everyone said, same gear ratios, the 96+ is just a little tougher (and easier to find with low miles).

Avoid anything besides the EX tranny unless you want tall gears.

If you have a LOT of free time, there IS a D-series that came with a optional LSD, tho I think it was a cable, so you'd have to convert it to hydro. Feel free to hunt one down.

actually you are correct... twin can zc cable tranny had optional lsd.. my friend had one.. it was bitchen.. also it had closer ratios.. hed walk all over me in my 94 dx coupe ex motor si tranny like nothing... 4 car lengths in the quarter he topped out at 125 tho.. id own him on the freeway

there is 2 d series trannys that came optional lsd.. only from japan tho.. (im pretty shure about that one) i didnt ever see any d trannys in us that are lsd yet soo correct me if im wrong...

i know the obd0 twin cam zc had optional lsd zc tranny cable and
d15b vtec had optional lsd hydro .

thats the only ones i know about tho
