Does the 2006 Civic Si Attract jealous or real debate? DISCUSS
Well since the fg has been mentioned on honda-tech and now released....
All i see are argument threads ... USUALLY from those that aren't planning or owning the car
Now... is it due to the fact that the car isn't that good... too good....
or what
PLEASE PUT ALL YOUR FLAMES & HATE IN HERE
and keep the OTHER threads clean

What happened to the good old days when import owners stuck together..
This reminds me of years ago when it was import vs. domestic all the time; not that this is right either..
Its pretty sad when we start to turn on our own kind
..
All I've seen so far since the 06's have come out is RSX vs. Si vs. ITR; knock it off people, these are all great cars and you should be happy to own any of the three!!
I'm done venting, can't we all just get along??

People should stop hating on the Si and start focusing their hate on the EM2's. They are the redheaded stepchilds of Civics
I'm not sure I see a point to this thread.
But from what I've seen, it's mostly been the folks that already have the new Si or are getting it are the ones that's been saying how great the car is (better than 'X' car).
Until we see some numbers/comparos or actually hear from someone who owns both, these 'vs.' threads don't mean squat.
While the new Si is a good car, folks who own an RSX-S or an ITR have no reason to be jealous IMO. The Si is up-to-par with previous offerings, but it's not like a 2400lb car with 200HP, Type R characteristics and wishbone suspension was created.
Take the car for what it is...a nice economically priced car that gives both comfort features and performance features. It will sell well, no doubt. But its essence is one step further away from the classic Civic formula, which is dissapointing in a way. Time marches on I suppose.

I owned a Type S, I now own an Si. This car has potential just as the Type S does.. They both have pitfalls, just as any Honda does (the day they make a perfect Honda that everyone agrees on.....)
If you want to compare cars, try comparing predecessors (Integra to RSX) (EP3 to FG2), you'll get further that way..although even still you'll be comparing apples to oranges..
Point blank, if you have the money, each of these cars can be pretty much exactly what you're looking for, so I don't see the point of arguing (not too many car enthusiasts will leave either of these cars stock)..
Remember when the RSX first came out and the DC2 discontinued....this is exactly the same conversation (different cars, obviously) that everyone was having..
It seems that change is unwelcomed

EP3 vs new Si I don't think is much of a debate. Hatch lovers will like the EP3, but in all other forms the new Si seems like a better car. RSX-S vs new Si, it's a toss-up. We'll see how much better the revised suspension is. That will be the deciding factor I think.
This is IMO, but if we are going by bone-stock cars, the Integra Type R is the closest *anyone* has come to a 'perfect' FWD car (in terms of overall performance).
The thing I am most upset about is the weight of the new Si. That's just dissapointing.

Good points made up above.
Part of the problem I am seeing is people who get a new Si and say they like it better than a RSX-S get the people from the RSX-S side saying the Si sucks/looks bad/is only a Civic/etc. Part of what people need to realize is that like Todd said there are not very many hard facts/numbers yet about these cars. All people have to go on is their own opinion (either first hand experience or going by what others say) and too often people mistake anothers opinion as an attack on their own opinion.
Even when more numbers come out I forsee this continuing with more bench racing but at least those of us who can look at the numbers for what they are, only numbers which may or may not tell the whole story, will have something to discuss. Hopfully this can happen in a respectfull reasonable manner.
Well I cannot think of anything else now. Thats my 2 cents.
FWIW, I like this thread. It is discussion without flames so far about the new Si.
Nate- who wishes he had enough money for any of these cars.

Well i remembered when i first picked up my ep3
i caught MAJOR slack from clubsi and others about the looks....and some people STILL do....
the problem with the ep3 is that they offered a "type r" in direct form and the us version was watered down....
honda heard our cries since 99' for more power, 17's, itr seats yadda yadda yadda
and even with the car in our showroom
people are still complaining
which is the reason for my thread
yes the car IS NOT a type r BUT its the closest thing we have "civic wise" to date

I dont believe that the Si so heavy to the point that it is a bad thing.... Im on the waiting list for the new Si (already put down deposit
) But I currently own a CRX, so I know all about the lightweight= power ratio thing... But you know what? The new civic is one of the safest cars that they have made which was a great selling point for me... I love my CRX, but lets face it... If I got head on by any car including a Metro.. I would be messed up... NO airbags or side impact support.... True they added a lot of weight to the car, but for a good reason I believe.. And its only about 150 pounds more than an Ep3 with more power... Also 1/4 mile times are 15.1 from Road and Track which is about the same as an RSX and the same as my Stock b16 CRX(no mods) I/H/E/k Pro will be low 14's which is all I need... All the good things that I dont have with my REX like AC, PS, airbags. heat, power windows, warranty, i-vtec... Just my 2 cents... Speed isnt that important to me anymore.. Im not trying to have the fastest thing out... But I wouldnt mind if the car was about 200 lbs lighter.. that would be great

i remember posting my ep3 without a drop and ctr wing and headlights

Patience is key.... with a side order of tolerance

You have to admit though the ep3 is one ugly *** car. It's only after you have spent a large portion of your money on "stock type-r" or "knock off " body parts.. That it even looks okay to drive around in public. IMO they came from the factory to fail out of the box.
Who knows Honda may have designed them just to do that. So, they could bring back the trunk, but I say keep atleast a hatch version of the si around for the loyal hatch owners.

Well I have been doing some research the past few days.. The main thing I have been looking into is the weight issue that everyone seems to hate about the new Si.. My main argument to this is, safety... But the weight increase is consistent with everything else that out there... Take a look at some of the curb weights of these cars... (source Edmonds.com/Road & Track magazine)
06 Si - 2877
RSX TYPE-S!!! - 2840
Scion Tc - 2980
Mini Cooper - 2730
Cobalt SS - 2970
WRX STi - 3440
Evo - 3290
Miata mx-5 - 2510!!
Dodge Charger - 4200!!! (porker)
the main thing that sticks out to me is that the weight is very close to the RSX type-s... I dont think we will ever see a 2500 lb civic anymore... I believe for a good reason..

Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) Body Structure
Our Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure improves impact compatibility with different-sized vehicles. In front-end collisions, it helps redirect crash energy around the passenger compartment.
Also I dont know about you guys but... If I got hit in an accident.. I would rather be in this car then in my 88 CRX Si (lightest year, but most unsafe)

IMO i think most of the negative debate about the Si is for a few reason...
1.) Some Si owners come on here talking **** to RSX owners saying the Si is the best car ever... When the cars are very similar... Which of course will **** anyone off..
2.) People are resistant to change.. People hated the RSX when it first came out...Now they love it..
3.) HATERS!!! most people say... "Well my EG with a K20 will blow your doors off!!"... who cares.. Some people just want a new, reliable, safe, car/// If we wanted a lightweight drag car we would buy one... If we can afford to buy a New Si, dont you think we could have done a swap if we wanted? Dont hate on people who are buying a new car just bc you cant afford one...
Ok im done... Ive said my peace.. And please take this thread for what it is... Its not to bash anyone...

interior it was eons better than a 99-00 si & 01 ex civic
just the exterior was a turd... even when i purchased it i was an avid defender
but like you said
ugly hatch + $$$$ = sexy
but that can be pretty much ANY car
what's also a selling point on the new si is there is no "jdm" version to replicate and i think this is a GREAT IDEA

A lot of this debate is stirred up by magazines, who thrive on this such a thing. They're doing it because they'll get readers.
Magazines proclaim this new car to be the best thing since sliced bread. Therefore, a lot of jealous debate is being produced, without any real reason. We experienced something similar with the hype surrounding the new RX8. This thing ran under 14.4 in magazines, and how often did we ever see that in real life?
At this point, we really can't have any "real" debate, since all of our "debate" is based off a car that so few of us have ever seen, much less driven, and even MUCH less own.
Let time pass, and let the hype die down. Then we'll make a judgement. For now though, I dont see it being that much better than a typeS.
--------------------------------------------------------
On a side note- - The tC auto weighs 2980, the manual 2900. This is within 50 lbs of the new Si. Loving the double thumbsdown there.
Secondly, a recent magazine article compared the Si Vs the supercharged tC. If you read it, you'll see that they ordered every available side option, such as curtain airbags, iPod upgrade, door treatments, etc... and then bitched about price after jacking it up to over $25,000. Biased, maybe? But this isn't about my car...

The magazine that I had was Road and Track...the only reason I gave the thumbs down was for the price... Its was $26,700 with the supercharger and only ran 15.1..... A stock Tc i believe is a great buy for what you get with it.... But $26,700???? Theres a lot of other cars that can be had for that price.... But like you said... I dont think everyone is going to get every available option either.... And I agree... It does look a lil biased
Additionally a fully optioned Si would be close to 26k... But they failed to mention that in the magazine
Which magazine has that article? I would be interested to see what was said about that...

I respect the new SI for what it is but I don't really like it. However, I'm not going to bash it b/c for what you pay for it's a great car. What I don't like is some people I've seen who own the SI posting and bashing other cars b/c they think there's is better b/c mine doesn't come with Navigation or an LSD. **** like that bugs me but as far as the actual car goes, it's nice for what you get. I just prefer my Type S.

I walked out the door paying $18,xxx for my tC, which included the iPod upgrade, curtain airbags, and AFTER taxes. I was quoted $4000 for complete purchase and installation of the supercharger from the dealer. TRDsparks.com has the complete kits available for $3250, and quoted $350 to install from local shop.
FAR, FAR below the $26 figure. I'm looking at 22,xxx tops for a car that'll put down mid 14's with full warranty. The article certainly did jack up the prices, and so did Road&Track. It was speed magazine, and sorry, but I dont have a link just yet.
I should put down 06 Si-like times within a few weeks, if not tonight. I'll post the vids if you like. I ran 15.43 before my new cat-deleting race header, and did that with just an intake. I'm leaving to test the header out in less than 30min, and ordering other mods with my next paycheck.

I would be interested to see what was said about that...</TD></TR></TABLE>

Fuckdamnit hes right.
Us Honda people need to stick together and not hate each other.
My opinion is that I'm not too big a fan of the new Si, but its a breath of fresh air to see the public liking the Civic again, after the failure that is the "7th gen" and at the tip of that, the minivan.
Seriously tho, we should all stick together and share the love. Were all Honda owners here, best build quality in the world, safest cars in the world. Lets go back to hating Nissan, that was the good old days.
Remember everyone, all the flaming and **** and how cool people here like your car.....this is the internet, a portal for sharing information. This is NOT real life. The EG/EK forum may like your RHD civic but in real life, people laugh at it. So lets remember that.
The new Si is a great car, and an asset to the H badge. Lets make this one a good one.
Si is a good lookin car cause 17 year old girls like it. That a good enough reason??

well of course people are gonna hate on it at first... remember when honda released the 99-00 si? it was a huge deal that it wasnt a hatch... this and that, now look you have to look far and wide (at least here in cali) to find a nice one that isnt stolen or some ****. it is definately a hot comodity... with time it will be widely accepted
I think its already more accepted than the EP3. The EP3, like the 5th gen Si, was not reall powerful enough to be considered the "top of the line" model, cause it wasnt THAT much better. But the 2000 Si was a big jump. Also, people here in the US may like the new Si because its a coupe, like the 99 Si. We love our sexy coupes, hatches are for europe.
