del sol weight
My girls Del sol is gutted to **** and still is a pig. It has no carpet, no tar, no firewall matting, no a/c, no heat, no cruise control, no powersteering, the back of the dash is cut out, all srs equiptment is removed, etc. I'm not sure of the exact weight, but its still too heavy for me. DelSol's have too much reinforcement and material due to the rear sliding glass and the targa top. But still a fun as **** car to drive

^^ that, lighter rims, flywheel, replace stock parts with carbon fiber ones (IE hood & trunk)
overall tho, i'd say as a delsol owner, they're more luxary than race. And i've never really had a problem with weight even before i ditched the Z6. The only cars i couldn't take with the same motor were hatches & CRXs.

It is a common misconception that the Del Sol is exceptionally heavy among its siblings. In truth, its weight is quite close to similarly equipped Civics of the same year (excluding the very light hatch backs).
With regard to reducing weight, the same basic ideas apply as they would with other Hondas. Some popular suggestions:
- Remove P.S. system
- Remove A/C system
- Carbon fiber body panels
- Lightweight battery
- After-market header
- Lightweight flywheel
- Lightweight wheels
- Strip interior
etc...

Exactly, there's really not that much difference. A stock 93 del Sol si only weights 70 more lbs than a 93 si hatch. (2396lbs/2326lbs) Not to mention that honda claims that almost 200lbs of a del Sol's weight is dedicated to reinforcement material on the bottom of the car due to the requirements targa top. For the civic hatch much of the weight is made up from glass and some extra roof weight. Therefore; the del Sol has a lower center of gravity and arguably better handling characteristics.
