alright heres my problem..

i got a 97 civic hx 5 speed with 110,000 mileage, only mod is an injen short ram intake, but ive had this problem before i got it

everytime i seem to go into VTEC, i hear my car whistling..like springs of valves are making noise...like its struggling to be in VTEC..maybe the noise is normal, but i can hear the sound distinctively..and it annoys me


is that normal?? ill see if i can get a video on here by 5pm EST and then that would be better.

i think its supposed to happen. on dohc engines the noise is even more noticeable.

try to find a dyno vid of a b16/18 and as it hits vtec it becomes soo loud

 

The 97 civic HX motor doesnt come in vtec...do you have a swap?...if not why do you think you have vtec?

um, no.

vtec-e is functions differently than vtec. when you're cruising under ~2700rpm, you're only using 1of2 intake valves. When you go above ~2700rpm you're using both intake valves.

 

so does that mean its normal? yes my car is vtec-e, but i was wanted to make sure. vid should be coming shortly

 

remember, vtec-e is for emissions and gas mileage, not for power.

and hondas are made to be econoboxes.

I know it has potential, but that's after you start messing with the motor's internals. I was just making sure the OP didn't expect his stock vtec-e motor to pull like a z6 or y8.

 

...since when did my Y8 ever "pull."

 

i hear that too but its my bov never heard it before when i had a cai on the thing...
