Default ECU not reading 4 wire o2!

Its a d16a vtec motor running a p28 OBD1...car has a 1 wire o2 sensor at the header and was wired for a 4 wire as well (purple, yellow, brown, gray) The o2 sensor is all wired up but not working..i followed the wires and they go into the ecu and look to be ok. I probed my splices with a voltmeter and im not getting any voltage. Bad chip? any other ideas?

So you spliced the 4 wire into the 1 wire??? Not sure I understand but my OBD 1 setup has a harness right to the 4 wire o2, it replaces my 1 wire since it is not needed on OBD 1. as long as all your parts are good (O2, ECU, WIRES) you should not have any problems, the o2 is just a replacement, you should not have to splice anything. Did you make your own conversion harness? or go with one from Rywire or something?

i didnt splice the 4 wire into the 1..i already have a 1 wire o2 sensor running...and have a harness for the 4 wire. i guess i shouldnt have used the word splice..i connected the o2 sensor to the harness (purple,yellow,brown,gray-pretty sure rywire) and probed the bare wire and got no voltage. the harness is hooked into the ecu. so this is why im confused. sorry..did i clarify this question enough?

If your car was running before the conversion harness then something seems wrong witht your harness or you have a bad ground. Check with peter at Rywire to see what you may be missing.

It was my understanding that you THROW AWAY the 1-wire and stick a 4-wire in there. Just to clairify: You have 1 wire (oem wiring) running from the ecu to the 1-wire o2, and the additional 4 wires (making 5 total) ready to addapt to a normal 4-wire o2?

This is what I did: I reused the single wire for the previous 1-wire o2, tossed that sensor out, put a 4-wire o2 into the o2 bung, then wired the black to it with the 3 new wires.

Ok, hopefully i can shed some light on the subject becuase it seems like i am constantly battling o2 sensors

Firstly

OBD0 = 1 Wire o2 sensor
OBD1 = 4 Wire o2 Sensor (except p08, jdm d15b, and vx motors)

Now that we know that, In order to run a d16z6 or similar engine they require the p28 ecu and the 4 wire o2 sensor. If this is the setup you are running it requires a 4 Wire o2 sensor, and nothing less. The rywire harness is already prewired for the 4 wire o2 sensor so buy it and plug 'er in....

If you are running a obd0 ecu, p08 ecu, d16a6, jdm d15b or equivalent you must use a 1 wire o2 sensor. The stock sensor you have should work as is. Make sure that you have it plugged into the correct pin location on the ecu (Pin d17?? i think).

Hope it helped, o2 sensors are frustrating

well im running a p28 and my car is obd1 and i have the rywire harness with the 4wires for the o2 (purple, yellow, brown, gray) But like i said, theyre dead--not showing any voltage. so it should be plugged into pin D17 your saying? Ill check that out--my cel is on but i cant find out the codes bc when i jumper my ecu the light stays solid...like you said--frustrating

Hope that "solid" light is not a code 0 becuase you will need a new ECU if so.

I have a p28 ecu in my da9 w/ the 4 wire o2 and i had the same thing happen to me my o2 wasn’t getting any voltage so I changed the o2 but it didn’t change anything. the mill wasn’t on so i really didn’t worry about it.
