Default driver side cv boot

I had been hearing squeaking from my front suspension all week so saturday I get under the car and check it out. Come to find out that my drivers side cv boot is tore to **** and grease is all over the wheel well and inner side of rim.
Just wondering would it be cheaper and a lot easier to just buy a new halfshaft?

And are the autozone halfshafts a pretty good replacement for a relatively stock h22?

Thanks
Mike

What?....

just take it off and replace the boot - regrease it and you're done.

No need to spend extra money.

Also, clean off your brake rotor and everything - take off the caliper and make sure nothing got inside there. Best way is to give everything a quick spray-down with the hose - and then use brake cleaner on it.

Here is a CV boot w/grease for $23

I just saved some money on my car insurance.
You just saved some money also.

to be honest I don't know how long I have been driving like this, and don't know if any damage has been caused due to the tear, by tear I mean half boot on one side the other half on the side.

That would be a whole hellava lot cheaper. But could there be any damage?

hmm.....i don't see the damage as being so significant that you have to replace the entire thing - just take it off, remove all the grease and inspect it.

My CV boot is also torn to $hit on the driver side. Although this may not be the best suggestion for you, since I am swapping in a new engine, I am just replacing my cv axles altogether and then I am just going to get new seals/clips for the intermed. shaft. Since I am driving on OEM axles and my Lude is a '92, I am opting to just get new axles (ready to go) and a few misc. parts for the halfshaft...

Well I think I am just going to do the boot. I will clean it out really good and if it looks bad I will replace. But it hadn't made any noticeable sounds when turning or driving on Friday, so I think I may be ok with just replacing the boot like Kingpin said.

While I am in there I am going to replace bushings and some other stuff.

yeah then it sounds like you are in good shape if you have not heard anything. I hear cliicking when going over speed bumps, or raised entrances/driveways. Mine has been like that for about a year and a half and has only gotten worse.
