Default I need help with what to do to my 98 civic...

I have a 1998 civic coupe ex. Vtec engine with cold air intake. I want to make this car faster but I do not make a lot of money, what can I do to do this. Keep in mind that I do not know a lot about cars so I have no idea where to start. I don't want body work right now except for maybe lowering, because I think it is stupid to have a nice car with nothing under the hood. Thanks.

try starting with a decent exhaust. if you want safe gains it's amazing what kind of h/p a good exhaust can free up. since you don't have a lot of money to throw at it a turbo or a supercharger would be out of the question, because a lot of the time either of these could cost a good amount of money. but if you want instant h/p gains you could always go with nitrous!

Well like I said, I do not know a lot about cars. So what is a good exhaust to get besides flowmaster?

intake, header, exhaust, and suspension would be good starting points.

I have cold air intake, I need to know what a good brand of exhaust to get. The weight reduction thing also sounds like a good idea. I take it that my subs aren't helping with that?

How about you start with a book. You dont know a lot about cars so learn first then make it fast.

how bout, if ur going to spend 10 seconds flaming him, help by giving him atleast 1 positive response to help him.

if u dont have a lot of money, weight reduction is the best way to start out. otherwise, simple i/h/e (intake/header/exhaust) is an easy upgrade. you can ebay all of that for prolly a few hundred bucks. quality parts can run up to over a thousand. your choice. the search button in the upper right does wonders.

also, a route many ppl overlook is suspension. strut bars, sway bars, lower control arms, springs, shocks, etc. all the things u can get to reduce wheel hop (not that ull have the power to get any) and keep ur chassis more solid. it helps more than u think it does. again, ebay **** can go a few hundred bucks for most of the parts mentioned above, performance/quality parts can run up to a few thousand bucks. your choice. that search button is just begging for u to use it.

its not a flame it the facts. learn how to do something before you dont it. Study the physics of a car before you go making it fast then blowing it up because you didnt know what the hell your doing.

edit:: your defintition of flame is certainly different from mine.

i dont believe HXvtec was flaming at all, he's right.
go get yourself a haynes manual first then theres other books out there that are about JUST hondas that you can find to help you modify it the way you want.
IMO, gutting your car with the stock SOHC is RETARDED! you have a 1.6L grocerie-getter... now you wanna turn it into a shopping car so its SLIGHTLY more nimble
and x2 if its your daily.

its your car, if your comfortable with that, by all means, go ahead.

I think you should learn first, spend later. this way youll spend wiser. Instead of putting an exhaust on your stock SOHC thinking your the fast and the furious and having ever ricer on the street annoy and rev at you, save the money so that when you get a fart can, you can actually be something to fear.

if your gonna keep that motor, boost it
like i said, learn first. knowledge is power and power can save you money, cuz now if you know everything about a turbo, you dont have to blow 1,300 bux on a kit with **** you dont want... you now can build your own, to YOUR specs, with less of YOUR money.

did i flame a bit, yes,
but you'll thank me later
cuz i wish i had someone to tell me the same back in my ricey days

try creating some ways of ,making horsepower instead of aftermarket bolt-ons . . i'd start with a Helms book for your car and read and learn from there, unless u have a habbit of burning books . .
