Default Tirerack's phone call @ 195/50/15

Hey all,
I just got a call from Tirerack about my order for SO3 in a 195/50 size. They said they can not sell me the tire for my car because it is unsafe. I said tons of people run them and recomend them. I said I wanted them anyway. He said the tire is totaly unsafe and on and on. He basicaly refused to sell them to me. I wish I had not entered what type of car I had! Is there any merrit to his argument? tires to short for thr car, tires not being able to carry enough load etc. Or was he trying to sell me the 205/50 for more money?? order is now on hold...what should I do!!????
Thanks

Cancel your order and do it online again, and don't enter your car. Dumb *** Tire Rack.

Bah, who did you talk to? Most of them will just say "use more air in them to be safe", tell them to call me, I'll to some burnouts with my 195-50s for them on the phone

Tell thouse **** **** its for a track car only and to sell you the fawking tires you want. That is bunk. Actually if you think about it, 195/50 is better, as they have a lower side wall and less chance of the side wall felxing when going around the cornor. Plus the smaller diamiter will give you a little more torque (kind of like changing the final drive, although alot, lot less noticible).

Hey AJBones,

I got the same call yesterday, from this guy Sunny. I told him that it was fine, that I've asked people who used the tire on their Rs and that there was no problem. He told me it was just policy to ask. There shouldn't be any problems with them shipping it to you. Just tell them that you've heard what he said and to ship them to you. Otherwise re-order as someone else said and don't enter your car type.

Yeah, it was a bit weird.....i said what if i just want to throw them in the yard as decorations, then you would sell them to me? he said, yes....but i know what you want them for..so i can not sell them.

BTW. I was planning on putting these on 6.5 inch rims. any issues there? would i be better off with the 205 anyway?

Don't blame tirerack.com. You should be glad that they are even giving you a warning before hand. 195/50/15's are undertired for ITR, IMHO, but you can do what you please.

Maybe they are now running out of 195/50s because of HT people....

Cosworth...not blaming tirerack. I do appreciate tirerack calling. kind of amazing. Just trying to figure out what I should do...heed tirerack's advice or ignore it. I value the advice on this board..so this is where I came for help.

Undertired? How do you figure that? They are only about 1/2 inch shorter, smaller side walls = less tire roll.

I already ordered mine so it's too late to change (195 / 50). Didn't sound like anyone at HT had any problems with them at all. They'll be 0.5 inches less in diameter than stock but that's about it. You could lower your car without investing in new springs

i went through that with tire rack 5 months ago. my friend needed some spare wheels with snows for his base rsx. he called and they wouldn't sell him steels, they wanted to sell him aluminum wheels with the snows. they wanted over $1100! f that. i called back, and ordered 4 steels for a itr, with 195/65-15's. after some b/s with them ( i told them i wanted it taller, to clear the snow..) i finally got the order through. dumb f_cks

My friend has Bridgestones S0-2 - 215/50s for the rear tires on his S2000. I've seen them... they look great. Didn't see any problems for the 50s.

Whoa, i got that call too. Good thing they still sold me the tires. I told them it was just for autox and wouldn't be used on the street. They were like...uhh ok. Then 2 days later, i got it.

Craig - having owned 3 sizes in 15"

205/50/15
195/55/15
195/50/15

I prefer 205/50/15's. To me, 195/50 side wall is too small... the real steve c will argue otherwise.

Let's face it, if money wasn't an issue, would you go with S-03's in 195/50/15 over 205/50/15's?

It fits more than fine... the tire side wall will be almost flush with the rims you're running. I've done 195/50/15s on 15x7" rims and they were flush... no room for an error on parrallel parking.

When you order them, say that you have a 91 CRX Si and you'll get them no problem. That's what mine are going on.

Also, I can see the point about the 195/50's. They do have an awfully short sidewall for an ITR, hence your speedo will be off a good amount.

Actually, if my memory serves correct, a 195/50/15 will only cause your speed/mileage to read high by a factor of 3%...not all that signficant.

Dont blame the tirerack guys..i've gotten the same call when I ordered my Yoko AVSi's last year. Im sure some bozo sued them at some point for not warning him that he is ordering the wrong tire. They probably instituted this call system to reduce their liability.

I also have owned all three of those tire sizes and I'll have to agree with the real steve c. I love my 195-50-15 s03's. Car still rolls arrrrs with the lower top end it has now.. and they are still plenty strong for curbing, trust me on that one

ajbones if your putting them on 6.5 rims then the 205s would be the best fit I wish I had the extra 1/2 inch on mine. I run them on stockers.

I am ok with the extra money for the 205, but a bit worried about rubbing. the so3 seem kinda meaty...and I had a prob. with slight rubbing on 205 before. If i could just my tein HA to budge I would raise my car some. damn. i would be bummin' if i bought the 205 and they rubbed when I know the 195 will not rub for less money.
