how do you figure out what # your type r is?
You Sir, are F'ed. From what we know, not even Honda kept any kind of cross-reference data. There is no way to look it up by the VIN either.
A thought I just had...maybe you can trace where the car was sold through the DMV and the car lot may have a record...maybe not. Sounds logical

I have no clue if it is actually possible to do this, i was jsut thinking about possiblities. Would it be possible to take the vin, contact honda, ask them??? Again I don't know if this would work. Contacting previous owner sounds easier....haha just a thought though
take the last 6 digits of your vin #. multiply by 3(the number of colors of USDM ITRs), divide by 4 (the number of years USDM ITRs were made), now add the last 2 digits of your vin #

I did not! I am sitting within arms reach of my title and I almost whipped it out. Then I thought....no f'ing way.
I'm sticking with a small chance that the car lot that originally had it, may have a record somewhere. They need that stuff incase they ever get audited.

That is impossible. The last two numbers of the vin number need to be even and have a square root or something silly like that. Just to prove that it's a farse I did mine and came up with 576.75 as being 'my number'. Well...1997's didn't go up that high and I know what my number is and it's NOT EVEN CLOSE!

i don't think the auditors would check the production # of the R.

Yeah- I tried for about a year to find out which number the engine for Yack's "Original Hatchcrap" came from, and ended up with nada. I even got the previous owner's name (Tony Chiu) from State Farm (his insurance company) and tried calling him at home (Greensboro) and never got anything.
If anyone knows him I'm sure Jack and the new owner of the Hatchcrap would love to know.
Oh well....

That is not what I meant. Good try though. To explain it for the third time, any business has to keep records incase the IRS wants to know something. For a car lot, this would include but not limited too all the automibiles they have sold up to a point that the IRS wants to know about.
This could mean that the place where your Type R was originally sold may still have all your information on record. Who knows if the have the ******* number or not, that is not the point. My point was that they MAY have it.

hmmm...seems to me those two statements contradict one another. anyway, when i replied to your first statement, my intention wasn't to criticize it. if you took it the wrong way, my bad. but you don't have to swear and be all sensitive about it.

Although honda did not keep records of the production numbers, you can find out the previous owner by getting his phone number. They keep buyers information in their records in case of them coming back to purchase another vehicle.
other than that id say you are screwed sorry bud...... Btw did you rip out the armrest or did it come without one?
